Part 1
You have been commissioned to redesign the artwork
for your favourite album as part of record store day.
You are required to produce and 2 sided sleeve design
and vinyl sticker. The focus of the design needs to be
typography and letter forms and include all relevant
information needed for a professional album release
Part 2
You have been commissioned as part of National book
we to redesign your favourite book cover. You need to
design the front and back cover in a suitable style
which explores creative uses of typography. You need
to include all text and information required for a
professional standard cover.
You will be expected to present your work in a
professional and appropriate format; which will include
final design solutions and an evaluation report.

All work will be submitted via your blog.
Your blog posts will have the following titles:
Task 1 Understanding typefaces and letter forms
Task 2 Album artwork re design

Unit 39 Learning outcome 1:
Understand historical and contemporary
developments of typefaces and letter forms
Whole class Task: From a given list below, each learner
will each be assigned two typefaces to research, a
historically significant and modern font. Findings will be
presented to the group and collated to create a timeline
of historical developments in typefaces
Learners will research describe both the aesthetic and
practical reasons for the design choices and use.
Learners will use this research to create a poster which
is sympathetic to the design of the font
Research and both posters to be placed in power point
and uploaded to blog.

Practical task learner to create a series of words which
visually represent the words they are trying to
communicate.
Individual task – learners to create a power point
giving examples of the different type classifications and
explain the key points of the font style and include an
image of a book cover that uses that classification of
type. Including:

a piece of text and define the following:

Starter task developing skills in the program illustrator:
Using the skills learnt in the type with meaning task
leaners need to chose 3 favorite song lyrics and tuen
them into illustrated posters which communicate the
meaning of the words.
Choosing one of the lyrics design posters as a starting
point learners need to research the information
required on a two-sided sticker for a 12” vinyl and
design a series of possible final outcomes in a variety
of layouts.
To accompany the lyric post and vinyl sticker, using the
same artist and album learners need to redesign the
artwork for a two sided 12” vinyl sleeve.
Learners are to reflect on work using suitable technical
language and complete the self evaluation power point.
All work needs to be uploaded to blog.
