The Scripture taken from Luke 24: 13-35.
Some points highlighted were:
1. We get distracted by life and the challenges in life that we miss Jesus’ presence right there in our lives;
2. We focus on confronting those issues ourselves rather than invite Him to deal them with us;
3. Jesus continues to teach us even though we don’t remember that He is with us always;
4. When we rub our eyes to clear away the blockers, we realise He is with us in the everyday things in life.
4. 24:13 Now on that same day two of them
were going to a village called Emmaus,
about seven miles from Jerusalem,
24:14 and talking with each other about all
these things that had happened.
24:15 While they were talking and
discussing, Jesus himself came near and
went with them,
24:16 but their eyes were kept from
recognizing him.
24:17 And he said to them, "What are you
discussing with each other while you walk
along?" They stood still, looking sad.
5. What is the message for TODAY?
When things go wrong (we think)
We can be distracted by our “issues”, our “pain”… and
miss the “important” things
Jesus came to His disciples and walked alongside
PROBLEM?
When we focus inward
We can miss God
6. 24:18 Then one of them, whose name
was Cleopas, answered him, "Are you
the only stranger in Jerusalem who
does not know the things that have
taken place there in these days?"
24:19 He asked them, "What things?"
They replied, "The things about Jesus
of Nazareth, who was a prophet
mighty in deed and word before God
and all the people,
24:20 and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to
death and crucified him.
24:21 But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this,
it is now the third day since these things took place.
7. What is the message for TODAY?
Focusing on the challenges / issues
We can lose hope when our expectations are not met,
when we think we have lost, we lose sight of Him…
We can be caught up in the current happenings that we
forget His promise and teachings
PROBLEM?
When we get distracted
We can forget His Word
8. 24:24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women
had said; but they did not see him."
24:25 Then he said to them, "Oh, how foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe
all that the prophets have declared!
24:22-23 Moreover, some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb
early this morning, and when they did not find his body there, they came back and told
us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive.
9. What is the message for TODAY?
Be assured: Jesus does not give up on us
Even when we hear good news from fellow believers, we
still doubt, we think we know better…
But Jesus is not angry nor has He given up…
10. 24:26 Was it not necessary that the
Messiah should suffer these things and
then enter into his glory?"
24:27 Then beginning with Moses and all
the prophets, he interpreted to them the
things about himself in all the scriptures.
24:28 As they came near the village to
which they were going, he walked ahead
as if he were going on.
24:29 But they urged him strongly,
saying, "Stay with us, because it is
almost evening and the day is now
nearly over." So he went in to stay with
them.
11. What is the message for TODAY?
Jesus continues to walk alongside us
He continues to teach us as we continue our journeys
We might not notice His presence or His Words, but He
is there
The assurance?
Even if we cannot see God
He is there
12. 24:30 When he was at the
table with them, he took
bread, blessed and broke
it, and gave it to them.
24:31 Then their eyes
were opened, and they
recognized him; and he
vanished from their sight.
24:32 They said to each
other, "Were not our hearts
burning within us while he
was talking to us on the
road, while he was
opening the scriptures to
us?"
13. What is the message for TODAY?
Jesus reveals Himself to us when we are open
The disciples invited Him in, and over the simplest of
events, a meal, He is revealed to them
When are we most open to receive Him? He is there!
Are we open?
He is already here… in our lives and in our hearts
14. 24:33 That same hour they got up
and returned to Jerusalem; and
they found the eleven and their
companions gathered together.
24:34 They were saying, "The Lord
has risen indeed, and he has
appeared to Simon!"
24:35 Then they told what had
happened on the road, and how he
had been made known to them in
the breaking of the bread.
15. What is the message for TODAY?
He opened their eyes
Eating - breaks down cultural boundaries.
Jesus shares that bread once again with his followers
Jesus opens their eyes
Helping them see that Jesus was with them the whole time.
17. Be still for the presence of the Lord
The Holy one is here
Come bow before him now
In reverence and fear
In Him no sin is found
We stand on Holy ground
Be still for the presence of the Lord
The Holy one is here.
Be Still….
18. Be still for the glory of the Lord
Is shining all around
He burns with Holy fire
With splendour He is crowned
How awesome is the sight
Our radiant King of light
Be still for the glory of the Lord
Is shining all around.
Be Still…. (cont)
19. Be still for the power of the Lord
Is moving in this place
He comes to cleanse and heal
To minister His grace
No work too hard for Him
In faith receive from Him
Be still for the power of the Lord
Is moving in this place.
Be Still…. (cont)
