1. Reflection Of A Persuasive Reflection
Reflection of a Persuasive Essay by Vickie Hale In my revision, I decided to incorporate
actionable feedback from the feedback I received. The feedback I received was that my essay
needed more clarification, I choose to use this feedback to help make my argument more developed,
I wanted to create a better thought out essay and I worked on the clarification of my argument as
well as renewed my research. With that, I did some critical thinking to help work through the
weak areas of my essay which was the structure and syntax. Therefore, I incorporated these
suggestions because they helped me to improve my essay and help me to create a more persuasive
essay. Without these changes alongside the small revisions, I made, I do not believe my essay
would have been as well–written so they were much needed. My biggest challenges came from not
being able to pin down my argument, it took me a while to come find a side to an argument that
wasn't vague. Because, I usually write in a creative way, which does not necessarily have to be
persuasive, I usually write fictional stories and people getting the understanding from the
experiences of the characters is the outcome, but with persuasive writing, you are trying to get your
readers to not only agree with your side of the argument but to see what and why you are arguing
your side in the first place. This became difficult for me because I kept feeling like my argument
was not central and a little vague. I worked on trying to help my readers understand what and why
I was arguing my side of the argument. I had to think about who was reading my essay and this
helped. What I could have done differently is choose a more central argument, I believe it would
have reduced my challenges. This question is hard for me to answer because I did not receive but
one peer feedback, the feedback I incorporated concerning my exploration of the issue was more
clarification because that was one of the problems my peer review pointed out. I worked on my
clarification because it is one of the main elements, that is needed when you are writing a
persuasive essay or any essay for that matter. Clarification gives the essay structure so your readers
can have a full understanding of your

2. Narration, Description, Argument And Persuasion
There are four modes of discourse where they help the reader better interpret an article, piece of
writing or book which are Narration, Description, Argument/Persuasion and Exposition. Narration
explains the organized events of action in time or relates them in space in reading an article.
Description explains or seeks to make the reader vividly aware of what the writer or speaker has
perceived. Argument aims the reader's agreement with their power of reasoning while Persuasion
aims to influence the reader's action with their beliefs and feelings. Finally Exposition's only
function is expose something or explain in a writing of story/book/article or any type of writing. I
shall be focusing on two different articles which are "To All the Girls...show more content...
"Jacoby states in the second through fourth paragraphs" how the story really relates to the title by
where her own daughter got waitlisted from the five colleges that she had applied. This shows
narration as it had Britz continue on with a story of all the accomplishments that her own
daughter did in high school to relate how now most bright girls are turned down or have very
slim chances to enter. Britz even adds more to the story where she too knew this well to happen
as Britz own college has done the same with tons of girls as Kenyon. The effectiveness that the
article brought overall with narration was detailed and I saw it a story that the young girl's
dream is destroyed and her mom is one of the culprits that caused. Britz should have attempted to
change the way colleges allow people to attend their school as colleges to me are a place where
education is important for the growing society we live in. My opinion with this part of the article
is that I see the irony with how her daughter was waitlisted from a college while at the same time
Britz does the same to females that apply to Kenyon where she tries to keep a ratio of 50/50 for
females and

3. One of the most critical skills required to be successful in life is the ability to persuade others. The
art of persuasion is a talent that is often overlooked. However, if one is unable to persuade others
effectively, they will never be taken seriously in a professional environment. In his book, Rhetoric,
Aristotle spends quite a bit of time on the subject of persuasion. In fact, he defines rhetoric as, " the
faculty of observing in any given case the available means of persuasion" (Rhetoric). According to
Aristotle, persuasion can be divided into three factions known as the three modes of persuasion.
Although the modes of persuasion can be implemented within an argument separately, one must
integrate all three modes in order to...show more content...
Here, Aristotle distinguishes rhetoric from all other subjects. He presents it as a global science
that can be applied to all other areas of life. This is significant as it demonstrates the universality of
rhetoric and supports the claim that persuasion is a natural part of human life. Therefore, an
individual must have some understanding of rhetoric in order to investigate the truth, as rhetoric
provides a base for all other subject matters. To fully understand how one can investigate the truth
within a specific subject matter, it is important to break down the different modes of persuasion.
The first mode of persuasion is dependent on the credibility of the speaker. Individuals are more
likely to believe a claim when they believe the speaker is knowledgeable in the subject. In
Aristotle's Rhetoric, this mode of persuasion is defined as Ethos. It is dependent on the speaker's
morality, along with the state of their mind and soul. This is supported in Book I through the
statement: We believe good men more fully and more readily than others... his character may almost
be called the most effective means of persuasion he possesses (Aristotle).
This suggests that individuals will more readily believe the speaker when they perceive him as just.
Therefore, the speaker does not have to be

Escape from Saigon and Red Thread Sisters have the same author's purpose of persuading but they
don't share the purposes of entertaining or informing. Red Thread Sisters has two main purposes, to
entertain and to persuade. Becoming involved in the characters is the first reason this book is
entertaining. It gives information on what they have to go through and how they are feeling about
being adopted. It also portrays Wen's journey to America and how she keeps a promise to her friend.
Suspense throughout the book is also entertaining. Reading the whole book is the only way to find

Central route or systematic processing is a route to persuasion that involves one being alert and
considerate of the content of the message. This is conscious processing. For example, hearing a
persuasive message. Is the person motivated and able to process this information presented?
Distractions and knowledge is the two factors that determine if someone can process this
information. It takes high effort to process this information and you will agree or have a
counterargument. When there is a convincing (cogent) argument it produces an agreement. An
example of this in like the one used in or textbook "Emily's economic plan makes sense! I'll vote
for Emily!" Peripheral route or heuristic processing is a route to persuasion that involves simple

8. Elaboration Likelihood Model Critique Essay
The Elaboration Likelihood Model has been hailed by some as "unquestionably the most influential
recent theoretical development in persuasion research" (O'Keefe, 2002). Even if this is the case, it
is by no means a perfect theory. One of the most commonly cited criticisms of the elaboration
likelihood model is the vacuous nature of the "argument strength" component. Although this
criticism is useful for pointing out an area of the model that can be fine–tuned, any perceived
shortcomings due to the argument strength concept can be mitigated through a creative application
of other areas of the model. One of the largest criticisms of the elaboration likelihood model
(hereafter ELM) pertains to the nature of "argument strength"....show more content...
If the persuaded possesses high elaboration due to high topic relevance, a strong argument will
manipulate that variable. If the persuaded has a high need for cognition, this can be exploited to
form a strong argument, and so on. If it has been identified that the central route of persuasion on an
audience is necessary due to high relevance to the persuasive message, this gives the persuader a
framework to begin crafting a strong argument. Since relevance is what captures the audience's
attention, the persuader must exploit this. For example, if the persuader is attempting to sell a car
to an individual the the use of the central route, and the potential buyer has been categorized as one
that clearly understands the relevance of the purchase, the persuader should do his or her best to
make their product seem the most relevant to the customer. The seller may do this by asking the
customer to visualize how happy they will be in their new car. This can also be done by highlighting
the features of the car that are most applicable to the customer's concerns (safety, high gas mileage,
etc). These methods will invite the receiver to become more involved with the target of persuasion.
All of these ways utilize the customer's judgment of high relevance to the situation to construct a
strong argument. The need for cognition is

Obesity is not only a cosmetic problem; it is also a health hazard. People eating themselves to
sickness are a disgrace. It is a choice that many will continue to make. Not listening to the doctor
and just sneaking by on the hospital visits is not going to be the outcome every time. "People who
are overweight or obese are at an increased risk for chronic disease compared to normal–weight
individuals" ("Weight Loss"), and problems get extremely severe; "40 percent of overweight people
are twice as likely to die prematurely, compared to a normal–weight person" ("Weight Loss").
Doctors tell patients everyday they need to change their diets and the answer is always the same
"I will next time," well maybe there might not be a next time? Now that this information is
present and Americans are aware of the higher tax rule, we need to sit back and look at our options.
Can a large coke be replaced with a glass of water? Will a salad replace a large double cheeseburger?
Can I be disciplined enough to watch my diet and care about my body? These are all questions that
the society and country need to answer, before it is to late.

11. Persuasive Business Messages Essay
MANAGEMENT 101
BUSINESS COMMUNICATION
Why is it important to present both sides of an argument when writing a persuasive message to a
potentially hostile audience?
It is important to present both sides of the argument in a persuasive message to a potentially hostile
audience because one has to try and avoid angering the audience even more. What one aims to do is
to persuade the audience and let them know that they acknowledge the audiences view on the matter
at hand.
To show that one acknowledges the audiences view, one needs to catch the audience's attention this
can be done through addressing their side of the argument letting the audience know that their point
of view has been taken into consideration and then explaining to...show more content...
By stating ones side of the argument one can then explain how the decision made may help or aid
the audience in the future therefore it may help increase the audiences desire to change their view
on the matter which will more likely lead to a more positive response from the audience than hostility
.
After collecting all the information on the topic of the matter at hand one can now formulate a way
in which they can convey the message to the audience without aggravating or offending the
audience. The way in which the persuasive message is to be conveyed should be convenient and
most reliable to one's audience.
The message has to be written in simple language so that the audience does not misinterpret the
message or be offended by the jargon used.
Grammatical mistakes have to be minimised in the construction of the message so that the message
comes across as having been carefully thought through. It should display good intentions and must
not be blaming to the audience but in fact it should help establish a common ground between you
and the audience, which will in turn help the smoother flow of communication and understanding
between the two parties.
Once the message has been created and proof read one would find the correct and most effective
way of sending the message to the audience. Face to face is usually best as it allows one to see the
audiences' immediate reaction to one's message and if misunderstandings

Prejudice's Persuasion
Many great people have presented formidable arguments in times of pain and suffering; finally
calling out acts that needed to be reformed after long periods of torment. Racism has always been
around but sometimes it's been worse than others. Atticus in 1935 tried valiantly to save Tom
Robinson from the racism that kept him from wining his court case and returning to his family in the
book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. While Martin Luther King in 1963 fought one of the
final battles against racism to stop the Jim Crow laws and make everyone equal, no matter the skin
type. For example, even though it was fictional, Atticus Finch's argument in To Kill a Mockingbird
is a powerful and persuasive speech in comparison to many non–fictional speeches. Atticus used
rhetoric to beat back the counter argument, painting a clear picture of who was to blame in the
simplest way possible. Furthermore, the amount of facts and structure used in Atticus's speech gave
well–constructed, logic–based answers to why he would not win the case, pointing out how, "This
case is as simple as black and white" (Lee). Not to discredit as Dr. King's speech was unbelievably
powerful and has made history, but it lacked the structure and the detailed argument Atticus's speech
mastered and presented to his audience. Conversely, Atticus is fictional and his case did lose while
Dr. King's speech has inspired and served as an example for many years. Never the less, Atticus

13. Persuasive Essay On Social Justice
Social justice is the fair and proper law that shows everybody is equal regardless of their color, race,
gender, religion, etc. The thought of executing another human being is completely harsh! My whole
life I have been thought that killing is wrong and that no human being has the right to kill another
induvial. To my surprise, it's what's happening in our society every day. Giving the death penalty, has
no justification. It's another crime being committed, but this time by the government. The death
penalty is usually given to a person that's found guilty of a capital crime. However, it's not easy to
consider the death penalty as an easy way to punish the guilty. Though many people believe that the
death penalty is the right way to punish people that has done hideous crimes, it's possible to kill an
innocent person, citizens pay million for the death penalty, and people of color are more likely to be
given capital punishment. The death penalty is a violation of human rights and it should be
abolished. "Since 1973, more than 155 people have been released from death row with evidence of
their innocence" (the death penalty information center). The lives of many innocent people are being
put at risk when prosecutors would "think" that a person have committed a certain crime and he/she
is guilty for it, without even having enough evidence that points out they did it. This shows that our
justice system is not as strong as we think it is. The death penalty is irreversible. Once a

14. Persuasive Essay On Suicide
In today's society, suicide can be a multifaceted issue, sometimes an act of heroism, selfishness,
love, or a brave choice. I am arguing against suicide because it is not a solution to a problem, it
should not even be included as an option. Suicide is simply defined as "the deliberate taking of
one's own life, usually the result of a psychiatric disorder, although sometimes deliberated in the face
of life–threatening physical illness, significant interpersonal stress, or when under the influence of
one or more substances of abuse" (Piotrowski). This topic interests me because of the fact that the
rates are increasing year after year and it can happen to someone close to me at any moment. This
topic should interest you too because someone close to you can show warning signs, which can be
subtle or more discernible. Also if you are reading this as a parent, you should know "suicide is the
third leading cause of death for those between the ages of ten and fourteen, and it is the second
leading cause of death for those ages fifteen to thirty–four" (Goff). Yet the factors that play into a
someone's decision is anything but simple. The most obvious and severe effect of suicide is the loss
of a meaningful, valuable human life. "In the United States in 2013, according to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 41,149 individuals committed suicide and approximately
494,169 received medical treatment for self–inflicted injuries. The World Health Organization
(WHO) reported an estimated 800,000 suicides worldwide in 2016, and suicide is the second
leading cause of death among fifteen– to twenty–nine–year–olds worldwide. Women attempt suicide
more often than men, but men complete suicide more often than women because men tend to use
more lethal means, such as a firearm" (Piotrowski). With suicide rates on a continuous rise in
America, society must ask what can be done to save lives.
The main argument against suicide is that it is selfish, which is true. By you killing yourself, it
causes a lot of pain to those left behind, like your family, loved ones, friends, etc. They tend to
blame themselves for your death. Even if you feel like nobody in the whole world cares about you,
you are wrong. When you think

15. Argument Vs Consensual Style
My argument style is pretty similar to the consensual style of arguing. Even though I have had a
fair share of adversarial arguments, I like to solve them using the consensual style. In most cases,
the general population thinks that he or she is right about something. Men are most common
when it comes to being right about something. Women are more likely to try and avoid conflict as
much as possible but this is not always the case. When it comes to a situation of any kind I always
try to understand where the other person is coming from before jumping to conclusions. I listen to
the other person because not everyone has the same opinion as you or I. I don't genuinely feel like
arguing gets a situation anywhere because you're not solving the problem. More than likely, you
will make the situation worse than what it was at first. Arguments can cause conflict and hard
feelings, and this is why I prefer to avoid confrontation; I'm also not very aggressive. Arguments
make me uncomfortable and I tend to not participate as much as would if it was a traditional
conversation. I truly like to make connections with the person and come...show more content...
I don't understand the need to raise our voices. Everyone should be mature enough to talk to the
other party in a calm and mature manner. Most arguments that people get into are about things that
don't even matter. For example, when you are having an argument with your significant other.
There have been plenty of times where me and my boyfriend have argued over silly things and then
end up laughing about it because we know we shouldn't have been arguing over whatever it was. I
like to use this metaphor of an arguing with a spouse to show how the society needs to act more like
a married couple. If they acted like this then, they could find a more constructive way to settle their
conflict rather than having a little disagreement about every little thing, they stumble

Increased Acts of Cyber Terrorism Call into Question its Prevention
With the widespread use of technology becoming more prominent, acts of cyber terrorism pose an
increased threat to safety. Cyber terrorists exploit the internet and its users to commit acts that can be
increasingly detrimental to their targets. Some of the terrorist activities include large scale
corruption of computer networks by using tools like computer viruses. Certain individuals even have
the ability of creating severe damage to government systems, national security systems and even
hospital servers. Most of the technology made today only has intentions of making life easier for
people. However, skilled users can manipulate the cyber world for negative intentions. Staying
informed when it comes to cyber terrorism and cybercrime is important to do because of the
increased reliance on technology in society. Steps to improve cyber security before an attack

18. The Declaration of Independence
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Its purpose was to declare the
13 colonies in America free and independent from Great Britain, get other colonists on board, and to
encourage other nations to help them. Jefferson not only wrote how they were splitting from
Britain, but he also gave thorough reasoning as to why they should be allowed to do so. In order to
do that he used deductive logic in this document. In addition, many people wonder if the
declaration had been developed in a different format, such as a series or syllogistic arguments, how
persuasive it would be. From a literary perspective, it would not have been as persuasive as the
original document. Another reason why the declaration is so persuasive is that Jefferson uses
friendly, brotherly language to show his unity to them.
The reason why the Declaration of Independence is so persuasive is that Jefferson uses deductive
arguments, which includes examples of Britain's wrong doings, which gives the person reading the
document a chance to see exactly why they are breaking from Great Britain. One of the strongest
deductive arguments in the declaration is, "That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted
among men". This means that any legitimate government is created to protect peoples' rights such
as, "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness". Throughout the declaration Jefferson shows how
Great Britain is not protecting their rights, but interfering with them. For example, he states how
the king keeps sending over soldiers and expects the people to house and feed them. How would
you feel if the government just placed a stranger in your home and told you he could eat your
hard–earned food? These soldiers were also allowed to disobey the laws in the colonies and not be
punished for them. This is not what you call protecting peoples' rights; it is more like invading them.
Another very strong deductive argument in this document is, "deriving their just power from the
consent of the governed". This means any power or authority that a government has is given to them
by the consent of the people, but this right like many others was abused too. For instants, Jefferson

19. Persuasive Essay On The Art Of Art
Art declares many things. It's a way for people to articulate their views, express their emotions, and
communicate to the world in a way that gives them creative release. This ability to exhibit one's
views in a imaginative and safe manner is exceptionally important to society's growth, and to border
this freedom to articulate is detrimental. Art should not be hidden and concealed permanently from
the public eye because some see it as vulgar due to the fact that many people have varying
definitions as to what is crossing the line. Only certain, obvious things can be noted as truly indecent.
Censorship is not an easy subject. As an artist, there is often a lot of tolerance for the obscene,
from appreciation to detail on the human figure or the unique renditions of animalistic
interaction. However, the majority of the public might find the same things that the artists see as
a unique interpretation as vulgar. It is easy to see that such a standpoint must be taken into more
consideration, as the point of indecency can differ greatly for a conservative Christian compared
to a liberal atheist. The two images of what each group considers unseemly would most likely
range in their obscenity, and so it would be difficult to put a line where one should be crossed. "If
an image offends very many people, sooner or later someone will invoke the law, and along with
it judges, legislators, policymakers, and the police," quotes Melinda Hinkson in Australia's Bill
Henson scandal: notes on the new cultural attitude to images. Here we have a majority rule, where
an image should only have action dealt upon it if enough people want change. Such censorship is
easy to determine when there are pieces depicting derogatory themes, such as child pornography or
racial notions. But there are multiple cases where there are two sides of the story, and it is not as
simple.
A statue named Truth is Beauty by Marco Cochrane has recently been constructed in the city of San

20. The Declaration of Independence was written for the purpose of separating the American colonies
from the British Empire. In context of history, The Declaration was the first step into a modern
representative democracy. In addition, the makers of the declaration, primarily Thomas Jefferson,
constructed an argument to state the problems they had with Britain and tell how the new American
government was going to deal with the problems. The argument Jefferson constructed was one
made with all the wrong evidence; however, he built the argument in such a way to rally a people
for war. The Declaration of Independence is a well–written example of argument and persuasion
with its use of structure as a whole, use of specific fallacies, and use of appeals.
Foremost, when looking at the Declaration there needs to be an understanding of who the audience
is. The most prominent person who would be reading this document would be the king himself,
King George III. When looking at the Declaration, King George would primarily be looking at the
argument Jefferson put forth. He also would be looking at the attacks and accusations being set
against him. The purpose of the Declaration, with the King for an audience, is to separate all legal
and moral ties. In the newly formed American government, Congress would be looking at what they
were setting themselves up for and placing forth the foundation of their government. Congress's
purpose for writing the Declaration was to start a government and

Argument Persuasion Essay: The Tudors Effect on History
"Nothing would be the same for any woman in this country again.... For everyone would know
that if a wife such as Queen Katherine of England could be put aside for no reason, then any wife
could be put aside." (Gregory, 2002, 276) The Tudor dynasty was a well–known royal family during
England in the 1500's. The best known, and discussed ruler during this time was King Henry the
VIII. He is known for his many wives, specifically six, and also his radical reformation of the
English Church. King Henry VIII was very concerned with having a male heir to continue the
dynasty. For that reason, he annulled his first marriage to Queen Catherine of Aragon. This
