1. Apa Style Analysis
When you write an essay, you have to use a format. Formats help you have a better looking paper.
Some of these formats are called, APA, MLA, Chicago, Turabian, and AMA. But the ones I will
focus on is APA and MLA. APA and MLA are close and different in a few ways. APA, American
Psychological Association, style is used when you write a psychology, education, and other social
science paper. APA style is a format for academic documents such as journal articles and books.
APA style is most commonly used to site sources within the social sciences. This style is a formal
way of writing an official document. The essay should be typed, double–spaced on standard–sized
paper (8.5"x 11") with 1" margins on all sides. The essay should use a clear font that is readable.
APA recommends using 12 PT and Times New Roman font. The essay also includes a page header
at the top of every page. To create a page header, insert page numbers flush right, then type "title of
your page" in the header flush left using all capital letters. The running head is a shortened version of
your paper's title and cannot exceed 50 characters including spacing and punctuation....show more

You would use this style for regular writing. Writing for an english, theatre, art, etc., is some
examples of when you would use MLA. If you are to write a paper using MLA you would type your
paper on a computer, 8.5 x 11–inch paper. Double–space the text of your paper, and use a legible
font . The font size will be 12. Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks. Set
the margins of your document to one inch on all sides. Indent the first line of paragraphs one
half–inch from the left margin. Create a header that numbers all pages consecutively in the upper
right–hand corner, one–half inch from the top and flush with the right

2. Personal Narrative: My English Composition
Writing makes possible to us expressing in a paper what we cannot communicate by talking. For
this reason, the writer must make his composition readable and understandable in order to get the
idea by the reader of what he is attempting to communicate. This requires a whole writing process
that I have experienced thus far this semester in my English Composition I Honors Course. I have
recognized what my strengths and weaknesses in writing are. So that, focusing more on my
weaknesses than my strengths will help me to improve much more my writing skills by the end of
the semester. One of my strengths in writing is that I plan what I am going to express in my written
work. As a brainstorm, I begin by putting all the ideas that come to my mind on my paper.
Nevertheless, in this process, I usually lose the meaning of what I try to communicate. My sentences
become incomprehensible and confusing to the readers because I am not being clear and concise.
Besides that, I am not a very detailed writer. This negative aspect is caused not because I do not
want to seek information thoroughly, but because I believe that including a lot of details might be
overloaded to the readers. Hence, I am planning to avoid this wrong thought of mine by...show more

If the writer wants to draw interest on the readers about his paper, he will have to write an
interesting introduction. During the semester, I have recognized that this is another of my
weaknesses. It seems hard for me to find a hook to engage the reader's attention. I usually spend a
lot of time thinking about how to write a good introduction. As a solution, I have begun reading
the work from professional writers to analyze what they use to start their written works. I realized
that a common way to start a composition is by writing an anecdote or a startling fact related to the
topic. I found this useful because it gives a general idea of how to write better

3. My Writing Essay
My Writing
In the past four years, I have written many papers for various classes, enjoying some and others
having to choke out words to write down. In this memo I will describe my writing projects and
how they made me become a better writer, and how they will continue to help develop me into a
becoming a more prosperous writer.
What I Really Learned in English 100
Well as a recent pupil of the Great McFadden I want to do all that I can to be on his good side, for he
said that if I go one mile to meet him, he will go two miles to meet me, which seems more that fair.
As an assignment I am told that I have to write what I learned in English 100 and how that it
prepared me for English 200. Well sincehonesty is the best way of...show more content...
Having taken many writing classes I have learned many things about writing. I enjoy writing and
can often write many pages about things that I am interested in. I know that I have more learning to
do about writing, and hopefully in the next couple weeks my knowledge of writing will have
expanded and my writing will have improved.
My Experience With Writing Arguments
I am unaware of any writing arguments. The only thing I can really think of is writing a research
paper with the intent to change people's minds on a certain subject. I remember researching for
weeks in the library, looking through magazine after magazine. I had searched for enough
information to write a ten–page paper. The writing process of the paper took several weeks but
when I had finished, all the hard work was worth the effort. I learned many things from that course
such as that you need to search for all the information you can because it is better to have too much
information than not enough. Also that course taught me many things about making references to
the authors of the articles I used for my paper. I remember writing out note card after note card and
keeping all the necessary information about each book or magazine. That course taught me to
become a better writer and to respect how much detail really goes into a research paper like I had
written. Other than that, I have not really had much experience in

4. Rough Draft Process Analysis
When beginning to write an essay everyone has their own method of doing so. Some may like to
brainstorm while others may prefer to go straight into writing about their topic. I personally
beginning every essay by collecting ideas about my topic before coordinating them into a type of
diagram, next I proceed to do my rough draft before revising over the paper and finally composing
my final draft. The point of the writing process is to help break everything down so ideas can be
organized and everything can make perfect sense for not just the writer but also the reader.
Writing an essay can be difficult if a person does not know how or where to begin. I personally
believe the first step of writing is to list down ideas about the topic. After...show more content...
Proofreading and revising is a very crucial step in the writing process. If a person does not
proofread then the essay they worked on may not make sense and may overall confuse the reader.
Using correct punctuation shows how sentences are supposed to be read. Once I have made sure
all my sentences are grammatically correct I then compose my final copy of the essay. Writing
can be difficult if not done correctly. That is why there is a writing process to follow. Using some
type of way to group ideas together help coordinate how the essay will go. Then once the ideas are
put together the rough draft can be formed and edited. After everything has been writing accordantly
the essay can then be turned in. Some may think the writing process is just some more additional
steps to getting their essay done but overall it makes the writing experience easier and more

5. My Free Rewriting Process
Freewriting has been a strategy for me in previous classes as well as on my own. When I start to
write a paper or an essay, I like to write down everything I know about the subject first, my own
thoughts and information I have stored away. In order to choose certain ideas, I compare what I
have already learned about the subject versus information I conduct research on. I tend to brainstorm
as well and pick out the major ideas to the subject I'm writing about, so the reader can understand my
concept. However, throughout the freewriting process, I've already set in my mind how I will write
my paper or

6. Improving My Semester In English Class
At the beginning of the semester in English class we discussed and learned different ways to
improve our writing skills, and become more proficient in editing papers. The most helpful lesson
my professor taught me was how to improve my papers with just a few steps. I learned that it takes
more than one revision to get the perfect paper, and therefore you should at least revise three times.
I also learned that everything should be in paragraph form even if it is only one page, before this
class that was a mistake I made a lot, I had thought that if something was one page I could just write
one big paragraph. When I typed my papers in the past I had always thought that the title was
suppose to be bigger than the rest of the text, this

8. Thoughts On Outlining
My thoughts on outlining, I think outlining is a great tool and idea to help you get started to
write. It helps you get ready to write your paper, helps with structure of your paper and how and
what you are going to write about in your paper,it's very similar to brainstorming in my opinion. I
find it sometimes hard for me to do an outline. I feel like just jumping right into the paper works best
for me, writing down whatever comes into my mind. Then editing the paper later on. In the past with
previous experience with outlining, I have found out that It does help you get started on the paper
with organization and thoughts, do I still continue to do outlines while i write, that answer would be
a no. Looking back at previous discussions, week

9. English Reflection Paper
Being able to learn what it takes to succeed in a college level class will be a great tool for me to use
when I am continuing my education at a four year university. English 101 was my first college
level English class and was definitely an eye opening experience. I was able to see what my
professors will expect from my work, while also growing as a writer. Even though this was a life
altering experience, I did have some frustrations and struggles along the way. The quick deadlines
and flexible topic choices posed a problem for me. However, some of the essays assigned have
turned out to be some of my favorite writings that I have ever produced. This past semester has
allowed me to create an extensive writing portfolio filled with my journey of writing growth.
Having class only two days a week was a new and interesting setup. The deadlines approached
more quickly than expected, and I believe that is because of the unfamiliarity I had with the class
setup. In my high school English classes, I was use to everyday instruction, and being able to work
on my assignments during class. While writing my first paper, "Lefties: The People Who Are Still
There When Things Are Not Right," I struggled the most with the deadlines. This new journey made
me realize that I needed to change how I complete my assignments. More time writing at home was
necessary to complete a well thought out paper that I would be proud of. To be honest, I struggled
with this throughout the whole semester.

10. Reflection Paper On Reflection Of Me
The Reflection of Me As look back on this class, I have realized just how much my writing has
improved since the beginning of the quarter and the first big assignment. I kind of went from
being a writer that really didn't understand how to correctly write a good essay. To a person who
also went from being a writer that was not very confident in her work and one who over thought
everything into a person who kind of found her own kind of writing style. Who can quickly and
effectively write an essay( also including revision as well ).This portfolio was made so that I can
show off what i have learned from this class, and show off just how much I have improved as a

However there are also things that I realized works well for me in my writing. Unlike what I thought
in the beginning of the quarter, I write much better when I make a general outline and write out the
paper without correcting myself as I go.
Which is a really good thing to do because each essay that is in the portfolio, are all different type
of essay with different components that you are suppose to be included in the essay. For an
Example, first essay I did was "Explanatory synthesis essay, which was over Obedience and its role
in our society. This is essay is called,"Understanding Obedience role in society"(Essay 1).We had
to identify relationships among sources so that readers can gain better understanding of key
terminologies, philosophies and ideologies for a specific topic.Which should include a clearly
stated thesis and follow an organizational structure discussed in class. I started my thesis by
saying,"Today's community of people allow authority to decide where all rules and order are
followed through things like social pressure, acts of violence, and unfair application of laws, which
turns people toward not obeying rules"("Introduction").However, my instructor suggested to add
specific details to grab the reader's attention, also that my thesis was good but I needed to clarify my
thesis. So

12. Proofreading
Proofreading any document prior to finalizing is essential to the writing process, and involves other
than just simply checking for spelling and grammar errors. Research papers, essays, e–mail, and
memorandums are just a few examples of documents that would require careful proofreading so that
the message is positively communicated. Proofreading can comprehended into three phases: revising
for content, editing, and verifying sources and mechanics.
Consider revising the content by reading your document slowly and carefully. Ensure that the title
and the papers introduction signal the intent of the topic. Examine the documents and its overall
organization. Determine if the assigned writing has addressed all the outlined requirements, is each
paragraph unified and coherent, is there enough details to support the opening introduction or the
topic sentence, and are there any points in the document where the...show more content...
Additionally, the writer can check for spelling and grammar errors that may have been overseen in
the second phase, including punctuations. Writers can determine whether particular words are
properly capitalized and abbreviated. Its imperative writers audit for appropriate formatting, such as,
MLA, APA, ASA, or any other documentation method required. Proper formatting also includes
placement of your name and course, page numbering, appropriate spacing, and cited work.
Proofreading is the most essential aspect of writing, and can determine if the paper or document is
well written, easy to read, and distinctly communicates the message. It's important when a writer is
proofreading their own material. The proofreading process is adequate as writers practice and
develops new strategies to the process. Writers can better identify areas where they can be further
attentive, and acquiring a sound method for finding errors will assist a writer on the development
ideas while drafting a

English 101 was a general education course I had to be enrolled in. I personally chose this section
number because it was the last one available in the morning and didn't interfere with my job and
other class. My overall experience was great, it's a great environment if you put the time and effort
to advance in your reading and writing abilities. I believe I have came along way compared to the
work and effort I gave in the beginning of the class. Looking back at what I've accomplished in
this course I feel like an appropriate grade to receive would be a B. The readings in this course
were not complicated, but at some point were time consuming. Knowing how to manage your time
can be really important due to assignment that come along with it. I personally always disliked

15. My Writing Way
When it comes down to writing essays or anything else, I would say to myself, I know this isn't
going to be good for me at all. Mainly because I haven't because I haven't adjusted myself or
prepared myself to think well while writing essays. I can sometimes over think things while I'm
writing, and it tends to confuse me. That's kind of the reason that I do not enjoy writing till this day.
When it comes down to writing essay's it can be quite simple but then again quite frustrating.
Writing can be very stress relieving, because I am able to express my feelings and thoughts
throughout my writing. It takes my mind off the things that I am going through in life such as
school, family, friends, social media, and etc. It helps me focus better knowing that I will have
someone else reading my thoughts and feelings once I'm done writing this essay. Writing is a
passage way for me to go into my own world and write about what I feel, see, hear, smell and even
taste.
My writing, to me never seems to have a strong flow or passage because the topics never catches
my interest nor attention. It's not my specialty, I tend to think too hard about what I am going to say
and write. I find it to be a hard process to translate my thoughts down on paper, mainly because I
haven't trained myself to do so. I can be entirely too lazy about my, work, so I may slack off on it at

1)The planning, brainstorming, and outlining helped a lot it made me write my essay in a better
way. Outlining helped me know the main points that should be in each paragraph, that I usually
forget to include, it also helped me plan what I want to write in each paragraph. Moreover,
brainstorming helped me know which topic I am can do the best in and then I choose my topic and
brainstormed my ideas on the topic I picked. So the planning, brainstorming, and outlining help me a
lot while writing my essay.
2)Peer review helped me notice my spelling mistakes, and some sentence structures. One of my
main problems that I always face is while writing "there" and "their", I always get mixed up
between them, and I never notice them. I learned from my mistakes that I should notice my mistakes

aspects of writing. I had many grammatical errors along with many underdeveloped thoughts. Even
though this class was only for a short period of time in order to learn how to write a proper academic
paper, I can see how far I have come. My papers may still be sub–par but in many aspects have come

Prior to completing Skip Downing's "On Course Self Assessment," I was starting to realize one of
my most sabotaging behaviors. I find it incredibly difficult to say a three–word phrase. When it
comes to assisting others, I have no problem lending a helping hand, but I cannot tell anyone that "I
need help." In writing this paper I hope to recognize the roots of my problem and adopt a plan to
aid me in overcoming this negative behavior. After I took the self–assessment and received a low

that I may become a successful student. The first strategy is to learn that I cannot do everything by

We cannot know everything, and we can all benefit from mutual helping relationships. I may need
someone to explain something discussed in Psychology class today and that person may need the
favor returned for English. Working together and helping others is important in almost every area
of life. I do not need to feel ashamed for reaching out first. As a result of doing the assessment, I
realized that I seldom request and often reject offers of assistance. A successful student would
employ interdependence by actively seeking out mutually supportive relationships to help achieve
their goals and dreams, while doing the same for others in return. I chose this topic because I do not
want to be a struggling student! Interdependence is a key factor in being successful in college. In
order to obtain a degree a college student must do well in all areas of their studies. To accomplish
that, he or she must comprehend the subject matter taught and apply what they learn. If a student
does not understand something and refuses to ask for help when it is readily available, they are
only hurting themselves. Three little words can make all the difference. By asking someone who is
more knowledgeable than they may be in a certain area, they could find the missing pieces that lead
