       communication to others and for you, a

     heals their wounds like
    nothing else can. It is an

Narrative Poetry
-includes all poems that tell a story
- tells a story, often making use of the voices of a
   narrator and characters as well; the entire
   story is usually written in metered verse. The
   poems that make up this genre may be short
   or long, and the story it relates to may be
   complex. It is usually dramatic, with
   objectives, diverse characters, and meter

A. Epic – these are long poems about heroes. It
   deals with events which are
   legendary, historical, mythical or a
   combination. It involves struggles
Ex. Bi-ag ni Lam-ang
   The Odyssey
   The Illiad

B. Ballad – these are fairly long narrative poems
   designed to be sung, composed by
   anonymous authors, transmitted orally, then
   translated before it was written
Ex. Twelve days of Christmas

Lyric poetry
- includes all poems that expresses a writer’s
   feeling and thoughts
- reflective poetry with regular rhyme scheme
   and which reveals the poet's thoughts and
   feelings to create a single, unique impression.

1. Haiku:- Japanese verse in three lines of
    5, 7, and 5 syllables, often depicting a
    delicate image.
2. Limerick: humorous nonsense verse in five
    lines rhyming
3. Ode- elaborate lyric verse, which deals
    seriously with a dignified theme; it is a praise
    or memory of someone

1. Elegy- a poem of lament, meditating on the
    death of an individual.
2. Sonnet- a popular form of lyric poem with 14
    lines
3. Dramatic Monologue: a lyric poem, which the
    speaker tells an audience about a dramatic
    moment in his/her life and, in doing
    so, reveals his/her character.

1. Acrostic- the first letters of each line are aligned
    vertically to form a word. The word is the subject of
    the poem.
2. Couplet- the easiest form in which it consists of two
    lines with an end rhyme
                    I like to play with my cat.
                     He likes to get in a hat.
3. Villanelle -has 19 lines, 5 stanzas of three lines and 1
    stanza of four lines with two rhymes and two refrains.
    The 1st, then the 3rd lines alternate as the last lines of
    stanzas 2,3,and 4, and then stanza 5 (the end) as a
    couplet.

Dramatic Poetry
- these are long dramatic poems which tell the
  story through the speech of a character
- It is written in verse and is meant to be
  spoken. Its main purpose is to tell a story or
  describe an event in an interesting and
  descriptive way.
