19. Defensive Phase
1-Start of Pressing:
In defensive phase, LIV transform its formation 1-4-2-3-1 in a 1-4-4-2. The AMC joins with the
STC. AML and AMR join with MC, and DM to create a midfielder line of 4 players.
LIV make a high pressing to force the mistake in the opponent. Making a
invitational pressing to one of the flanks (RB or LB). Intense pressure when the opponent
receive the ball back to back, midfielders line step up to close any pass line for the middle. The
forwards line shift their position to cut the pass line with the opponent DC. The defenders line
step up to reduce the space between lines. Thus LIV forcing the mistake to create a counter
attack situation, or the long ball trusting in the aerial game from its DC (Sakho, Lovren, Skrtel).
Low work rate from the forward line, letting at the opponent avoid the
pressing through switch the side, and provoking extra effort in their teammates.
When the rival team overcome the pressing, and penetrate in LIV half field. LIV keeps its 1-4-4-2
formation, dropping their positions, until to have 8 players behind the ball (Defensive line,
Midfielder line). One STC (Who is in real the AMC) drop his position, helping to the midfielder
line to steal the ball creating 2v1 situations. The STC keep in advanced positions waiting for
defense-attack transition.
The block during this phase is too long. The distance between the defensive line,
and the forward line is too high. This provoke the apparition of space between lines.
2-Destruction of creation:
3-Defense of Goal:
In defense of goal, The defensive line defends in mix marking. Good coverage system in 1v1
situation in the flanks. Poor body positioning from the LB and RB in cross situations.
The midfielder line drop their position to close the middle pass line. Moreover,
one of the CM move to active ball zone to make coverage to the defensive line.
The AML and AMR have a little freedom during this phase, being more focus in
the DEF-ATK transition than in defensive work. This provoke the apparition of space in flanks
areas.
20. Defensive Transition Phase
The LIV defensive reorganization is based on intense pressure after ball loss. Leaving
the passive ball zone alone, to gathering players in active ball zone. This pressure is
benefiting because in Attacking phase, the LB and the RB step up their position until
to be in the same line than the DM and the CM. Making attacking surveillance over
the opponents to start the pressure in case of ball loss.
Defensive Reorganization:
Defensive Counter Attack:
In defensive counter attack situation, the CM and the DM are important pieces.
They are in charge to avoid the easy ball progression benefiting the repositioning
from their teammates.
The defenders line drop their position to avoid any pass to their
backs. The LB, and RB move their positioning to the middle(close to the DC)
because in case of a pass the defenders line back, they are faster than both DC to
avoid any goal opportunity.
23. Defensive Corner Kick
2 players man marking
5 players in zone
1 in second ball zone
1 in transition zone
24. Defensive Throw In
6 players man marking
2 players in zone
1 in second ball zone
1 in transition zone
25. Attacking Phase
The attacking game model is combinative attack through possession football, controlling the
game in the opposition’s half. LIV uses a 1-4-2-3-1 formation in attacking phase. Both DC
keep their position in the middle. The RB and LB step up their position to create space for
the MC and DM. The CM and DM have an important role in this phase. They make support
uncheck to the space that the LB or RB leave when they move up their position. When they
get the ball without mark, they look to play with the STC (Origi and Benteke aerial ball) or
the AMC. Thus, the team can move up their position, and control the possession in the
opponent’s half.
In finishing zone, The AMC and the STC move inside the box. The MC step up in case of
second ball situations. LIV has a Benteke as target in its cross. The AMC/AML/AMR
(Coutinho,Firmino,Ibe,Lallana) has freedom to create goal opportunity.
Coutinho dribbling with the ball to the middle looking for finishing
oportunity. Obi look for 1v1 situation in the flanks to win end line for cross.
In creation of game, LB and RB step up their position till be in the same line than MC and DM.
Making a attacking surveillance system in case the team lose the ball.
The LB (Moreno) makes overlap to the AML (Coutinho). Tanking advantages that the AML
moves to the middle (Off ball and with ball).
The MC and DM keep their position in the middle making surveillance and focus in second ball
situations.
The long cross is an option when the team does not find space through the middle, trusting in
the aerial game condition from Benteke,, or provoking second ball situations.
2-Creation of Game:
3-Finishing:
1-Build Up from the Back:
26. Attacking Transition Phase
When LIV recover the ball try to find the ball the AMC or the STC to allow the
attacking reorganization (1-4-4-2 changes in 1-4-2-3-1).
LB and RB go up their position, creating space to the CM and MD to make
support uncheck. AML and AMD move up to the middle to create space for the
LB and RB.
Counterattack:
The counterattack is a option in LIV game after a ball recuperation if the team gets to find
the STC. LIV uses in defensive phase 1-4-4-2. STC keep forward their position waiting for
DEF-ATK transition.
STC will hold the ball to allow the break uncheck to the space from second line
(AMC,AML,AMR).
Attacking Reorganization:
36. Recommendations
GENERAL CHARACTERISTIC OF ATTACK ORGANIZATION PHASE
1-4-2-3-1 with positional Combinative Attack like game model. Controlling the
possession in the opposition’s half.
Fast build up from the back. Looking for pass to forward players and fast
positional progression to opposition’s half.
Looking for ball progression for the middle zone. Strong in the aerial game.
CHARACTERISTIC OF ATTACKING TRANSITION
Maximum intensity and combinative build up.
The offensive transition is in block looking for a good balance, and counter
attack with the incorporation of players from second line.
Amplitude from RB/LB. AML/AMR move inside to create spaces in the flanks, and
support in the middle. STC is a important piece in the transition.
GENERAL CHARACTERISTIC OF DEFENSIVE ORGANIZATION PHASE
Team change its formation in 1-4-4-2, with a high block.
High pressing with the objective to avoid the opponent build up. Maximum
intensity in the pressing with the objective to recover the ball.
Apparition of certain space between defensive line, and the midfielder line in
the pressing. Defender Center slow but with great aerial conditions
CHARACTERISTIC OF DEFENSIVE TRANSITION
High pressing with maximum intensity after ball loss.
Accumulation of players in the opposition’s field to make pressing after ball loss
and to force the mistake in the opponent.
Invitational pressing to the flanks to avoid the opponent ball progression, and to
create players superiority.
