Unlike building architects, there’s not really a college course or anything that can teach one how to be a true architect in software. Now, there are classes that can teach you a tremendous amount of theory and the like but the reality is that 80% of what you learn in college will be outdated within a year of you graduating. What this means is that software architecture is really much more of an art than a science and as such, you need wisdom to be an architect. Wisdom gives you the ability to look beyond the current set of language, operating systems and the like and translate business into technology and vice versa. How does one gain wisdom?
