2. Right after being born, Hermes went out
and stole the cattle of Apollo. When
located back at his birth cave, Hermes
found a shell of a tortoise. He
slaughtered some of the oxen and used
the guts to make the first lyre.
Apollo found out what young Hermes had
done and went to the cave, demanding
justice. Zeus agreed to this. Then
Hermes surprised the gods by playing
his newly invented instrument. They
were all mesmerized by the beautiful
sound.
Apollo then let go of his charges against
Hermes, in exchange with this
wonderful innovation and also gave him
his golden shepherd staff.
3. Often portrayed:
as young athletic man or like an elderly man with beard
in a moving positing, as to show his roll of a messenger
