2. Saws
Gives precise cuts on angles to 45
degrees, both ways.
Can cut straight line and has a laser
guide.
Is a heavy tool that can’t be moved
easily.
Only preform simple cuts.
Can’t cut a straight line without using
a guide.
Not as accurate, without a steady
hand.
Is a portable tool and handheld.
Can cut around odd shapes with
ease.
Mitre Saw
We decided to use
this tool to cut our
joints as it was more
reliable.
Jigsaw
We did use the
jigsaw, however not
for the majority of the
cuts that we made.

3. Joints
This is a simple joint that
is effective for building
simple structures
Can is not very nice
looking if you can see the
joint.
Takes a lot of time to
build the joint and it
needs to be perfect.
The joint is visually
pleasing to look at, if it is
on display.
Butt Joint
We decided to use
this joint as it did
what we needed to
do. It is simple and
clean as it was not
seen.
Dove Tail Joint
We decided not to use
this joint, as it would
take a lot of time for us
to learn and also it
was not needed for
any reason.

4. Woods
Is cheap.
Is light.
Is flexible.
Can’t hold nails.
Cannot support weight.
Is expensive.
Is heavier than Hardboard.
Not flexible.
Can hold nails.
Can be used to make a structure
that supports weight.
Hardboard
We decided to use
Hardboard as it was
flexible and
light, which was
perfect for what we
needed it to do.
Plywood
We did not use
Plywood as it was not
needed to be used for
support and it was not
flexible to create the
effect we needed.

5. Trimmers
Can take a controlled
amount of material off at
each time.
Is time consuming for
large to remove large
amounts of material.
Cannot control the same
level of material that is
getting taken off each
time
Can take a large amount
of material off at one time
and create cuts.
Plane
We used a plane to
take of a small
amount of wood from
the doors to make the
shut smoothly.
Chisel
We ended up not
using a chisel, as it
was not suitable to do
the jobs we needed.
