What I have Learned from the Progression of the Prelim to the Full Product
1. What I have learned from the
progression of the prelim to the full
product.
2. Our filming process for the prelim
• Throughout the process of
planning and filming the prelim
we were very much
concentrating on ticking boxes
and learning about the process
of planning and handling the
camera rather than creativity
and following the conventions
of real products.
• This was a very important
process however as we
learned how to use a camera
efficiently and create continuity
by using specific shots.
3. Our filming process for the Final
Product
• The filming for the final product
was a much more creative,
free and refined process.
• We based the whole film
around the look of the shot and
the impact this had as a super-
natural thriller.
• We filmed a large variety of
shots with distinctive lighting
and setting instead of box-
ticking to create a visually rich
piece.
4. The Sound in Our prelim Compared to
Our Opening Sequence
• In the preliminary task we did not take much
consideration for the sound as we just needed to learn
about the shots. In the end we decided to layer a music
track over the speech and white noise, making the
dialogue very low-quality.
• We realised for the opening sequence that sound is key
to create a professional product and we wanted it to
create a high impact on the viewer as well as build
suspense. We did not use dialogue again as in our
research this matched the imagery much better.
• The music track we chose was very in-keeping with the
mise en scene.
5. What we Learned About Editing
• In the prelim task we learned
how to best match up cuts and
do basic fades between shots.
We also added basic text
through the editing software.
• This was refined in the post
production of the final product
as we learned how to layer
shots using fades as well as
layer text over the shot with
animation.
• We did not use a filter over the
film as we had done in the
prelim as our lighting during
filming created the right
ambience.
