WHUS 91.7 FM WHUS DJ Bobby Ahrens WHUS's office in the Student Union WHUS has run for between 80 and 90 years under different names; initially, it was an experiment with the then-new radio technology. The radio station employs ten students and three professionals, according to Barbara Becker, a financial assistant at WHUS.

A human rights group on campus, the Free Press is an outlet for alternative political issues with more than a dozen student writers; recent issues have been dedicated to activist issues such as education reform and marijuana legislation. Its writers also have a weekly radio program on WHUS.

HerCampus came to UConn in the spring of 2010, and currently has about eight writers, said Liz Crowley, a writer for the website.
