1. EQUIPMENT FOR MY MUSIC VIDEO:
The music video is one of my three products that I am aiming to produce to a high standard,
so that it is appealing and engaging for my particular target audience. The equipment I will
use is:
1. SD memory card- SD memory cards are used in mostly all small portable devices such as
digital camcorders, cameras, mobile phones etc. They enable small devices to capture large
quantities of memory. This is very important especially for my music video, as I will need to
ensure that the camera I use is fitted with an SD memory card, so that we can capture footage,
over a period of time, and can also upload it onto the computer, ready for editing and
alterations, when all the footage is collected. Without this, we would struggle to produce the
video, as we could not keep all the footage we have collected over time, and therefore our
work would be lost.
2. Video Camera- it is really important that we use a high quality video camera, as it easy to
produce an effective music video. Also, it would be useful if the camera we use is also
relatively small and portable in size so that we can take it to different settings, without it
causing too much disturbance and being too heavy to carry. A high quality video camera, will
also allow us to go back through the footage we have already taken there and then, so to
make sure before we leave one of our locations, we have captured all the necessary footage.
3. Tripod- a tripod is a three-legged stand for supporting a camera or other apparatus. It is
useful in creating and capturing steady shots without shaking that could potentially distract
the audience and lower the quality of our footage. We may consider using this, as it would
give a steadier stance to our footage, enabling the footage to be easily understood and giving
our footage a professional look. In addition, luckily school has a selection of tripods of which
we could borrow during the days of which we are planning to film our footage. A fluid head
video tripod will give the best results, however it is possible to get generally good results
with the original tripod that we have at school.
4. Studio Lighting- Studio lighting is key in heightening the quality and presentation of my
music video. Using high key studio lighting can greatly emphasize the mood of my music
video, enabling the genre and presentation to stay in sync, and consequently further enticing
my target audience. Evidently, the use of studio lighting limits the location choice for my
music video, as we have studio lighting at school, however this means that the majority of my
footage may have to be shot at school, as carrying lights to our locations could prove
difficult- for this reason I think I may use a range of locations, some of which incorporate
studio lighting, other locations teamed with natural lighting.
5. Mac computer- this is needed for the editing part of my music video production. I will
need to use the mac, of which has programmes and applications, such as final cut, as a means
of editing the footage of which I have gathered in our music video shooting locations. Editing
is a significant part of the production, and a mac offers the best possible programmes that can
be used to edit, and therefore will give the best possible results and presentations for my
music video. Furthermore, due to the fact that a music video needs audio music file added on
top, it is essential that the programme I use for editing is able to transfer our song onto the
footage used.
EQUIPMENT FOR THE ALBUM COVER:
2. 1. SD card: SD memory cards are used in mostly all small portable devices such as digital
camcorders, cameras, mobile phones etc. They enable small devices to capture large
quantities of memory. This is very important when taking pictures for my album cover, as I
will need to keep the pictures, so to transfer them onto my computer ready for editing to
incorporate my images into the album cover template.
2. DSLR camera- this camera is the type of camera we will ideally use to capture our
pictures for the album cover. It is easy to use, and also due to the presence of a SD card, we
can transfer the pictures from the camera onto the computer ready for the editing process of
the production of our album cover. It is important that our images are of a high quality, as it
will attract our particular target audience, and for this reason we feel this would be the best
camera to use to take our images. It is also very portable and relatively light, however
delicate. This means we can take the camera relatively easily to a range of locations to shoot
our pictures giving us greater scope and freedom when choosing a location.
3. Props relating to genre- it is important that the album cover is fitted with props and
models of whom reflect our chosen genre. This is important as our genre must be clearly
shown through our iconography, to ensure that we attract our particular target audience to
buy our album cover, and that the genre is not confused.
4. Mac computer- Mac computers house programmes such as abode Photoshop, abode
InDesign, and Adobe After effects, etc. These programmes are very useful when producing
our album cover as they enable us to alter and crop out sections that are faulty, as well as
giving us the tools to enhance the images we have.
5. Studio lighting- Studio lighting is key in heightening the quality and presentation of my
album cover. Using high key studio lighting can greatly emphasize the mood given across
from my album cover, enabling the genre and presentation to stay in sync, and therefore
further enticing my target audience. Similarly low key lighting and the appearance of
shadows can alter the mood of my album cover, enabling to appear more sinister etc.
