75. In 1980, as Charter President of the Rotary Club of Las Pinas, Rene tapped 100 Rotary Clubs in the USA to donate elementary school books to schools in Luzon through the facilities of both American and Filipino Rotarians.
77. In one poolside meeting of the Rotary Club of Paranaque, Rene dared each Rotarian to donate 10 pesos per lap that he can make for the Club's community projects. Unbeknownst to every one that he was a marathon swimmer, by the time Rene was on his 30th lap, a rope was thrown to retrieve him. With 60 Rotarians multiplied by 10 pesos multiplied by 30 laps, he had raised P18,000 in 30 minutes.
