2. SlideShare allows users to upload presentations
such as PowerPoint, Open Office, Keynote, and
PDF documents.
Sharing can be “public”, or limited (by sending a
link via email),and posts about presentations
added to profiles such as Facebook and
LinkedIn.
Users can create slidecasts and embed YouTube
videos and MP3 audio.
Presentations can be shared on mobile devices,
and viewers can “follow” and submit feedback.
Other users with SlideShare accounts can copy
presentations (with copy “allowed”), and edit
3. These shared resources are conveniently
organized, and locating presentations is as easy
as searching by topic or specific title, or by
browsing/joining interest communities (some
require approval to join).
SlideShare is an excellent option for teachers
and students to borrow from and expand upon
others’ insights and presentation of content, as
well as to add their own creativity to the
communal learning environment.
4. The following is a shared PowerPoint easily
adapted and used for a language arts class.
Many elements could be used as the basis of on-
paper graphic organizers, topical assignments,
and assessment.
I have added the Examples pages and the
YouTube video.
7. Plot (definition)
• Plot is the organized
pattern or sequence
of events that make
up a story. Every
plot is made up of a
series of incidents
that are related to
one another.
8. 1. Exposition
• This usually occurs at the beginning of a short
story. Here the characters are introduced. We also
learn about the setting of the story. Most
importantly, we are introduced to the main conflict
(main problem).
9. EXAMPLES AND
CLUES
Exposition
Adjectives, descriptions
“Who, What, Where, When, Why”?
Is this a continuation of another story?
What has happened previously?
10. 2. Rising Action
• This part of the story begins to
develop the conflict(s). A building
of interest or suspense occurs.
11. EXAMPLES AND CLUES
Rising Action
Verbs, activity
How do characters interact, affect each
other?
Setting-how do events differ as it
changes?
What are the problems presented?
12. 3. Climax
• This is the turning point of the story.
Usually the main character comes face
to face with a conflict. The main
character will change in some way.
13. EXAMPLES AND CLUES
Climax
Who is (are) the central character(s)?
What is the turning point?
What are the results?
How are the characters changed?
14. 4. Falling Action
• All loose ends
of the plot are
tied up. The
conflict(s) and
climax are
taken care of.
15. EXAMPLES AND CLUES
Falling Action
What happens to_____?
How is _______resolved?
How will things/people/relationships be
different now?
17. EXAMPLES AND CLUES
Resolution
Critical, immediate problems have been
solved.
Activity has settled into a “new
normal”.
Relationships and hierarchies often
assume a new order.
18. Putting It All Together
1. Exposition Beginning of
Story
2. Rising Action
Middle of Story
3. Climax
4. Falling Action
End of Story
5. Resolution
19. DISADVANTAGES OF SLIDESHARE
Highly specific content may have little use to others;
conversely, one may not be able to find useful shared
resources.
The site does not support all types of embedded
audio/video, or slide transitions and animations.
Students’ downloading and sharing must be carefully
supervised, especially concerning personal information.
While the addition of video and audio can be
accomplished while in SlideShare, text editing cannot.
Elements of collaboration and feedback are lesser than
with a program such as Prezi, where coediting is
possible, or VoiceThread, which allows direct audio or
text responses.
