Chateaux are castles built by
French royalty and nobility
from the last half
millennium. The chateaux of
the Loire Valley are all quite
close to one another,
creating a beautiful valley of
castles.
3. The Loire Valley is named
after the Loire River, the
longest river in France, and is
located snuggly in Central
France.
4. The first Chateaux of the
Loire Valley were built
between and throughout the
10th and 15th century by
French kings. French
nobility, never wanting to
stay too far from the seat of
power, quickly followed
suit.
5. Le Chateau de Chambord
The Chateaux Chambord
was constructed (but never
finished) by King François I
in 1519. He built this
particular chateaux in order
to be close to his mistress,
Comtesse de Thoury.
6. The Chateaux Chambord is the most famous and recognizable of the French Chateaux because of it’s
very traditional French-Renaissance architecture.

Name: Domaine de Montmerveille
Location: Loire Valley
History: This was the first manor house en route to
the Loire Valley. It sits snuggly in the French
countryside and was built in the 18th century.
Interior: Quiet and classic, each room has a French
