Warm Up-
What is one part of photosynthesis? Explain your
answer
Objective
 Students will be able to illustrate and explain the
process of photosynthesis
Photosynthesis
 Using your textbooks, answer the following questions.
Pages 44-48
1. What is photosynthesis?
2. Who uses photosynthesis?
3. How does photosynthesis work?
4. Where does photosynthesis take place?
5. What happens during photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis Pg 44-48
 What is it?
 The process by which a cell captures energy in sunlight and uses it to
make food
 Who uses it?
 All living things obtain energy directly or indirectly from the energy
of sunlight in photosynthesis
 Autotrophs- organisms that make their own food (plants) use
photosynthesis directly
 How does it work?
 Plants and some other organisms use energy from the sun to convert
carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and sugars
 Where does it take place?
 Inside the chloroplasts
 What are the stages?
 Capturing the sun’s energy
 Using energy to make food
Drawing Photosynthesis
 Draw the processes of photosynthesis
 Label/ explain what is happening
 Include both stages
 Use color!!!
Photosynthesis Video
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pD68uxRLkM
Exit Ticket
 What happens during photosynthesis?
Homework
 Photosynthesis Reading and Questions (at top of
page)
Warm Up-
How does photosynthesis affect nearly all living things
on earth?
Objective
 Students will be able to identify and arrange facts
about photosynthesis
Homework
 How does the sun supply living things with the energy
they need?
 What happens during the process of photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis Equation
 Carbon dioxide + water (light energy)→ glucose + oxygen
 6CO2 + 6H2O (light energy)→ C6H12O6 + 6O2
Photosynthesis Reading
 Read Pages 44-48
 Complete Guided Reading as you go
 May work as a group or independently
Wrap Up Questions
 What is the equation for the process of
photosynthesis?
 What are the reactants/ raw materials?
 What are the products?
 What is the role of light energy in this process?
Warm Up-
Photosynthesis Learning Check
Objective
 Students will be able to design their own terrarium.
Homework
1. Green; about 95%
2. Blue; about 90%
3. Green, yellow, orange
4. Violet, blue, red
5. Chlorophyll makes a leaf look green because it
reflects green light in the highest percentage
Photosynthesis Equation
 Carbon dioxide + water (light energy)→ glucose + oxygen
 6CO2 + 6H2O (light energy)→ C6H12O6 + 6O2
Terrariums
 Looking at your container
 Setting up your lab
Homework

 Working on Homework
 Seeing a teacher for help
Warm Up-
What is a terrarium? Why do you think we are making
them?
Objective
 Students will be able to design and make their own
terrarium
Homework
 Across
 1. Chlorophyll
 4. Food chain
 7. Green
 8. carbon dioxide
 10. sugar
 Down
 2. Photosynthesis
 3. Leaves
 5. Water
 6. Herbivore
 9. Oxygen
 10. Six
Terrariums
 Finish Lab Sheet
 Make sure you have researched your procedure!!
 Get it checked!!
 Start creating!
H Period
 Work on Something Quietly
 Read
 Homework
 Project
 See a teacher if needed!!
Warm Up-
What do you know about bean seeds?
Objective
 Students will be able to…
1. make their own terrariums
2.explain how a terrarium relates to photosynthesis
Procedure
1. Gather materials
2. Place (amount) of drainage rock in the bottom of the
container
3. Pour (amount) of soil on top of rock
4. Make 3 separate holes about (3cm) apart about (2cm)
deep in the soil with a spoon for the bean seeds
5. Place one bean seed in each of the holes
6. Cover the bean seeds with the soil
7. Pour (amount) of water over the soil
8. Put lid back on the container tightly
9. Record data and observations every 3 days.
Terrariums
 Make Corrections to your Lab Sheet (if needed)
 Get it checked!!
 Start creating!
 Be smart
 Be careful
 Think before
doing!!
Terrariums
 Clean up your ENTIRE AREA
 Make a drawing on the back of your observations sheet
 Make Day 1 Observations
Wrap Up/ Reflection Questions
1. How do you think your terrarium will do? Why?
2. Why do you think we made terrariums?
3. What does a terrarium have to do with
photosynthesis?
4. What part of photosynthesis are we eliminating in
the closed container? Explain
5. What do you think will happen with your terrarium?
