1. Warm Up-
What is one part of photosynthesis? Explain your
answer
2. Objective
Students will be able to illustrate and explain the
process of photosynthesis
3. Photosynthesis
Using your textbooks, answer the following questions.
Pages 44-48
1. What is photosynthesis?
2. Who uses photosynthesis?
3. How does photosynthesis work?
4. Where does photosynthesis take place?
5. What happens during photosynthesis?
4. Photosynthesis Pg 44-48
What is it?
The process by which a cell captures energy in sunlight and uses it to
make food
Who uses it?
All living things obtain energy directly or indirectly from the energy
of sunlight in photosynthesis
Autotrophs- organisms that make their own food (plants) use
photosynthesis directly
How does it work?
Plants and some other organisms use energy from the sun to convert
carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and sugars
Where does it take place?
Inside the chloroplasts
What are the stages?
Capturing the sun’s energy
Using energy to make food
5. Drawing Photosynthesis
Draw the processes of photosynthesis
Label/ explain what is happening
Include both stages
Use color!!!
13. Photosynthesis Reading
Read Pages 44-48
Complete Guided Reading as you go
May work as a group or independently
14. Wrap Up Questions
What is the equation for the process of
photosynthesis?
What are the reactants/ raw materials?
What are the products?
What is the role of light energy in this process?
17. Homework
1. Green; about 95%
2. Blue; about 90%
3. Green, yellow, orange
4. Violet, blue, red
5. Chlorophyll makes a leaf look green because it
reflects green light in the highest percentage
28. Objective
Students will be able to…
1. make their own terrariums
2.explain how a terrarium relates to photosynthesis
29. Procedure
1. Gather materials
2. Place (amount) of drainage rock in the bottom of the
container
3. Pour (amount) of soil on top of rock
4. Make 3 separate holes about (3cm) apart about (2cm)
deep in the soil with a spoon for the bean seeds
5. Place one bean seed in each of the holes
6. Cover the bean seeds with the soil
7. Pour (amount) of water over the soil
8. Put lid back on the container tightly
9. Record data and observations every 3 days.
30. Terrariums
Make Corrections to your Lab Sheet (if needed)
Get it checked!!
Start creating!
Be smart
Be careful
Think before
doing!!
31. Terrariums
Clean up your ENTIRE AREA
Make a drawing on the back of your observations sheet
Make Day 1 Observations
32. Wrap Up/ Reflection Questions
1. How do you think your terrarium will do? Why?
2. Why do you think we made terrariums?
3. What does a terrarium have to do with
photosynthesis?
4. What part of photosynthesis are we eliminating in
the closed container? Explain
5. What do you think will happen with your terrarium?
