2. THE AMAZON ISLAND & CANAL
Amazon women were belived to live in Terme, a town of SAMSUN. We thaught “ if
they lived in our city, we would protect their history.” We built a huge amazon woman
statue for it. It has 3 parts called a spear, shield &warrior woman.
3. THE TREASURE OF AMISSOS
Amissos was founded as a
coastal city on the gulf of
Pontus in the North of Asia
Minor.As an open harbour, the
city has gained importance in
Ancient Ages in terms of its
convenient hinterland and
unique harbour position
between Sinop and Trabzon
parts.Mithridades, the king of
Pontus, heard of the name
“Amissos” in the war between
Roman City states.The city was
sieged by Roman General
Luncullus and after its
fall.Amissos came under the
rule of The Roman Empire and
acquired its former fame.
4. THE STATUE OF ATATURK
It was built by Heinz Kreppel between the years 1928 and 1931.On every side of
monument, the figures emphasizing the national struggle were built.This monument which
has become the symbol of our city is the second large monument in the world.
5. TEKKEKÖY CAVES
Tekkeköy is a Paleolthic and chatolitic settlement which is almost 14 kilometres
to SAMSUN city centre.The excavations started under the chairmanship of Prof.
Kılıç Kökten and a team of archaeologists which also inclinde Tahsin Özgüç and
Nimet Özgüç.As a result of the excavations, some Paleolithic, chalcholithic and
Bronz age findings were gained.And in consequence of the surveys, scientists
revealed that Delikli Kaya is a Phrygian Castle which has dominant position over
an area where Çınarcık and Fındıcak vallies cross together.
6. AKDAĞ SKIING CENTRE IN LADIK
Akdağ is the highest mountain in Samsun.It is around 1000
and 2000 metres high.Akdağ has been declared as a centre
of winter tourism .You can have a rest on that mountain.
7. THE WATERFALLS IN KABACEVIZ,ÇARSAMBA
This place is suitable for many activities.Tourists are interested in about it.This
waterfall flows through to the end of the August.
8. AMISSOS TREASURE
The excavations started when local people contacted to Ilkadım munidpality about the hole they saw
during the excavations, it was found that the tomb was made by carving conglomerate type rock mass.After
the first analysis, base and roaftop of the tomb was seen to be smeared by khurasan, only three of the five
graves were used ond two graves were empty.With the analysis on the skeletons and other findings in these
three graves, it was thought that the graves belonged to one man and three women and the examination of
the pottery, glass and marble findings and jewellery showed that one of the graves belonged to one of the
serior kings and the other two to his wife and daughter.
