Bambusa textilis                                           Weaver’s bamboo
Bamboo         20-40’ high                   Dramatic specimen.
Most soils. Moderate watering. Sun or light shade. Hardy to 15-20 deg.F.
Deep green leaves on arching culms to 2” in diameter. Forms broad clumps. Thin walled culms
are used for weaving.


Bambusa tuldoides                                           Punting pole bamboo
Bamboo          20-40’ high                  Dramatic specimen, tall screen.
Most soils. Regular to moderate watering. Sun or light shade. Hardy to 20 deg.F. or a little less.
Dense bamboo has shiny olive green culms to 2” in diameter. Clumping. Thick walled culms grow
in a tight clump. There has been confusion with B. ventricosa in identification of this species.


Borinda (Fargesia) fungosa ‘Chocolate’                      Clumping bamboo
Bamboo        10’+           Use for screen, great texture.
Most soils. Moderate watering. Sun or light shade. Hardy to 15-20 deg.F.
Dramatic bamboo forms dense clumps with billowy foliage. Stems in the selection are dark
brown. Pinkish bracts on new growth.


Chusquea circinata                                         Clumping bamboo
Bamboo         10-15’        Use in mixed plantings.
Well-drained soil. Moderate watering. Light shade. Hardy to 25-30 deg.F.
Graceful clumping bamboo has dark stems with dense brushes of narrow leaves. From southern
Mexico. Formerly known as Arthrostylidium species.

Clumping bamboo forms dense clumps with blue stems 10-20’, hardier than typical species.

Many small leaves on erect red to dark reddish brown stems. Very graceful effect.

Arching stems, dense circle of drooping branchlets have almost continuous brush of bright green
2" leaves. Excellent clumping bamboo.

Bamboo         to 15’ high    Use as specimen.
Most soils. Moderate watering. Light shade.    Hardy to 25 deg.F. or less.
Clumping bamboo from southern Mexico develops mature golden culms with dark green nodes.
Lush leaves give a dense appearance.


Drepanostachyum khasianum
Bamboo           12’+
Most soils. Moderate watering. Light shade. Hardy to 15-20 deg.F.
Glossy green culms have maroon coloring above the nodes. Compact form, with
relatively small leaves.


Drepanostachyum sengteeanum (falconeri)
Bamboo         15-20’+        Use for graceful screen, or focal point.
Most soils. Moderate watering. Light shade. Hardy to 20-25 deg.F.
Very graceful clumping bamboo. Slender arching green stems, narrow bright green leaves.
Protect from hot afternoon sun.


Himalayacalamus hookerianus ‘Teague’s Blue’                    Blue bamboo
Bamboo         Up to 20’high          Striking plant for individual display.
Well-drained soil. Moderate watering. Sun or light shade. Hardy to 20-25 deg.F.
Slender stems, lacy branchlets, pendant narrow, bright green leaves. Young shoots blue;
purple bands on nodes. Clumping, but makes broad thickets. (previously known as
Drepanostachyum falcatum)

Bamboo         10-20 feet high               Decorative use.
Well-drained soil. Moderate watering. Light shade. Hardy to 25-30 deg.F.
Tightly clumping bamboo from Nepal has very pale greenish canes and fine leaves.

Clumping, forming erect fine textured thickets. Slender stems with dark, narrow 3-5” leaves.
Best with light shade away from the coast.

Bamboo        10-12'                                Screens, shade gardens, containers.
Most soils. Moderate watering. Sun or light shade. Hardy to 15 deg.F. or less.
Clumping mountain bamboo has dense, leafy appearance. Culms can get reddish tinge with age.
Draping branches.

Most soils. Moderate watering. Sun or light shade. Hardy to 20-25 deg.F.
Ethiopian alpine bamboo forms spreading thickets. Traditionally culms have been used for water
pipes, fences and building. Formerly known as Arundinaria alpina.
