Touring with Hair the company stopped in San
Francisco
He fell in love with the City

4. Stepping into
Politics
Ran for Supervisor in 1972, but lost with an
impressive 17,000 votes
Ran for Supervisor again in 1975, but lost
again
Ran for Supervisor once more in 1977 and
won!

5. Hope Speech
Addressing the Speech to gay youth who
were afraid
Reassures that there is hope no matter what
“And you, and you, and you, got to give them
Hope!”

Anti-gay discrimination law
A Law forcing dog owners to clean up their
pets messes up on sidewalks and in parks

7. Death of a Hero
On November 27, 1978, Harvey Milk was shot
and killed by Dan White
A candle light vigil was held that night and the
crowd was huge
Many offices and businesses closed
5% of the whole city went to the candle light
vigil
