Aims
• To introduce the GL project (background, project
aims, partnership working and timeline)
• To prepare teachers for using the Audit activities in
the classroom
• To introduce the Challenge & Enquiry Pack to
teachers and trial activities
• To establish a timeline for Pupils take Action
• A 3-year EU funded development education project, led in UK
by CDEC, and delivered in Czech Republic, Poland and Ghana
• Objectives:
– To build teachers’ confidence in incorporating global learning into their lessons,
so that
– Children understand interdependence between European countries and the
Global South, in the context of food, trade and the causes of poverty, and
– they feel empowered to take collaborative meaningful action towards making
the world a fairer place.
• Participatory and experiential learning, critical thinking

• Year 1- engaging ‘curious dogs’ and carrying out Pupil Audit,
School in a Box..
• Year 2 – developing and trialling classroom
activities. Challenge & Enquiry Pack
• Year 3 – Engaging more schools , and
‘Pupils Take Action’

  • 4. Aims • To introduce the GL project (background, project aims, partnership working and timeline) • To prepare teachers for using the Audit activities in the classroom • To introduce the Challenge & Enquiry Pack to teachers and trial activities • To establish a timeline for Pupils take Action
  • 5. • A 3-year EU funded development education project, led in UK by CDEC, and delivered in Czech Republic, Poland and Ghana • Objectives: – To build teachers’ confidence in incorporating global learning into their lessons, so that – Children understand interdependence between European countries and the Global South, in the context of food, trade and the causes of poverty, and – they feel empowered to take collaborative meaningful action towards making the world a fairer place. • Participatory and experiential learning, critical thinking Global Literacy – what is it?

Sept 2013 “Launch” Session 1 – Introducing Global Literacy Cockermouth, Penrith & Barrow Oct 2013 “Pupils Take Action” Session 2 – Competition Launch Monday 7th October – Cockermouth Tuesday 8th October – Barrow Wednesday 9th October– Penrith Visit by Ghanaian Teachers 1 week Start pupil audits Oct-Jan Pupil Audits in each school Support from CDEC (face to face, email, telephone etc) Pupils learn about global literacy using Challenge Pack – teachers Carry out their own ‘Pupils Take Action’ project Creative outputs... Feb 2014 Competition final – a one day County-wide event, for children to ‘exhibit’ the actions they have taken Global Literacy Project – timeline

  • 18. Commitment from you! 1. Pupil audit activities with your class (remember to record the outcomes and send to CDEC!) 2. Try out Challenge Pack – at least three activities, and let us know how it went. 3. Support your pupils to ‘Take Action’
