Communications/Public Relations
Communication skills recognized by Management and successfully co-ordinating the trauma and elective patients with
theatres and Heatherwood hospital (pre-assessment and wards). To ensure the management are aware of activity and
bottlenecks.
Effectively communicate with all 9 Consultants. To co-ordinate with other specialities (consultant /SPR) to ensure cohesive
care plans. To liaise with other Trusts and Tertiary centre to coordinate patients safe and timely transfers.
Succeeded in developing and the implementation of a daily multidisciplinary team (Drs F1/F2/SHO nurses, OT,
physiotherapists and social workers) meeting on all T&O patients both on the ward and outlying wards. To co-ordinated
their pathway ensuring patients and carers are given choices and quality of care.
Identified, implemented and developed Traumatic Brian Injury pathway with supporting speciality including the PCT. Audit
of these patients conducted last year. Presented to PCT in 2005.
In previous post was the Hospital representative for film locations within the Trust. Provided the interface between
Production staff of Kavanagh QC, Inspector Morse, Only fools and Horses and TV commercials and the Trust ensuring that
at no time was any service within the hospital disrupted during filming. These successful activities generated an annual
income in excess of 90k per annum.
Hospital representative on Miscarriage Support group providing clinical and counselling advice to the group, which resulted
in the introduction a ‘fast track’ support service to patients and their partners. Reviewed and improved communication
channels within the department, which greatly enhanced morale.
Appointed to the following projects in raising the profile of the hospital and enhancing internal staff relations. Conducted 3
major investigations - Racial discrimination, Dr’s unprofessional behaviour and finally, Senior nurses professional
behaviour. Following investigations, all recommendations were followed.
Represented the Trust at the House of Commons Select Committee, effectively answering questions and presenting the
Findings from extensive research.
Quality/IT Systems
Implemented a number of administrative monitoring systems to greatly enhance clinical care including new patient list.
Researched, designed and introduced specific to the Trust individual patients discharge advice cards. Successfully created
and developed a detailed system for data collection used for measuring the quality of service delivered to patients, involving
the setting up of formal auditing Fractured neck of femur audit (12 months)
Assisted the Clinical service manager & Matron in investigating patients'/internal complaints and liaising the Customer
Liaison Officer and drafting replies. Involved in the continuous assessment of patient care and the correct evaluation and
implementation of patient care and documentation and the promotion of the standards of the Patients Charter.
Designed and implemented a database to analyse the breaches of infection control. Also designed and implemented the tibial
probe monitoring of lower limb injuries to identify potential compartment syndrome. Managing the operational issues of
ensuring equipment and staff education.
Reviewed and implemented link nurses to work along side Corporate Nursing Team re Essence of Care – on going audit.
Successfully implement strict Infection control protocol and weekly monitoring. Continually working along side
Microbiology Consultant implementing formal weekly ward rounds , successfully co-ordinating individual patient care
pathways. Assisting and co-ordinating OPHAT services
2. Project Management
Previous post successfully decommissioned / commissioned 3.2 million project of a new Accident and Emergency
department during a three year period ensuring the smooth operation without disruption to the existing service. Involved in
the full business case for the above project. This project was completed within budget and on time.
People Management
Monitored and supervised staff medical, nursing, clerical staff in the clinical field and organised the nursing "skill mix" of
the ward. Successfully reviewed the skill mixes and restructured.
Responsible for the recruitment and retention of nursing staff, continually evaluating and appraising performance which
includes reviewing staff sickness, morale and training. Organised the in-house training of junior medical staff within the unit
and hospital. Formally acted as Counsellor to the nursing staff and patient's relatives and staff after traumatic incidents.
Delivered training to staff with a remit to increase both personal and unit expertise in the expanded roles.
