Kirsten Bronoski's portfolio summarizes her work developing and managing multiple websites for The Morton Arboretum over 13 years. The websites saw significant growth in visits during her tenure. She led migrations from Dreamweaver to eRube, Joomla, and Drupal content management systems, each time focusing on more user-driven navigation. Kirsten also trained staff, wrote documentation, incorporated responsive design, and created an app to improve the user experience across platforms.

Visits
Visits to the Dreamweaver
site grew almost 500%
between 2000-April 2007.
This site was
department driven
instead of user
driven.
3. DREAMWEAVER SITE, EDUCATION
I worked with all internal clients
to ensure what they deemed
important was represented
accurately on the website.
Because templates
weren’t used, it was time
consuming to make mass
changes to the
navigation, and style.
The Arboretum
wanted to create a
more fluid site. We
also wanted the
NAV to be user
driven.

Visits
Visits to the eRube site grew
Almost 200% between
June 2007-April 2009The eRube site tried to move away
From department driven NAV. We also wanted to
portray the beauty of the Arboretum with a larger
home page image.
5. ERUBE SITE, INTERNAL PAGES
Internal eRube pages and
internal promotional “ads”.
The Morton Arboretum’s
first CMS. A proprietary
program with little
to no documentation.
6. ERUBE SITE
Because eRube was a
proprietary CMS, there
was little to no
documentation. My first
task was to write a
training manual for staff
responsible for updating
the website.

front, rotated to show three
additional modules.
8. JOOMLA SITE, INTERNAL PAGES
I provided training and documentation
(a series of screen grabs) to staff “power
users” so departments would be able to
update Information on their pages.
This site navigation returned
to more department driven
instead of user focused.
9. JOOMLA SITE WON
In 2009, shortly after launch, the Joomla site won,
Best CMS-Powered Non-Profit Sites
from the CMSA Spotlight Awards

Visits to the Drupal site grew
almost 19% between October
2013 and December 2014.
The Drupal site returned to user focused
navigation , moving away again from
the departmental navigation of our
Dreamweaver and Joomla sites.
We learned we needed more
promotional area on the home page.
12. DRUPAL SITE
RESPONSIVE DESIGN/APP
• In response to the increase number of visitors viewing our site on
mobile devises, we developed our Drupal site using responsive design.
• When we launched our new site, we also created a tour app that can
be downloaded for iPhones®
• We learned we needed more promotional area on the home page. A
Slideshow was created that can house 5 slides which link to more
information. We added the ability to promote 3 upcoming
events, and we have 4 house ads that link to more information.
