3. How it works
According to a research done at the Cleveland
University, USA, the rhythmic tones involved in chanting
create a melodious effect in the body called the Neuro-
linguistic effect [NLE]
When we know the meaning of the mantra we are
reciting, it creates a Psycholinguistic effect [PLE] on the
body.
The NLE and the PLE effects are by-products of the
production and spreading of curative chemicals in the
brain. The research concludes that this is the real
reason why chanting provokes curative effects in us.
4. How it works
Each tone vibrates the bones, muscles and fluids of
the chanter. The elongation of the vowel sound is
remarkably healing to the brain and the body.
Brainwaves begin to balance after three or four
minutes, and the muscle and skin temperature
increases.
The ancients intuitively knew that the balancing of
the body, heart and mind through the voice is a direct
path to healing and higher consciousness.
5. Cancer and Chanting
Chanting simply means singing [rhythmic speaking]
certain sounds or words.
Group resonance
From a scientific point of view, the true power of coming together
as a group stems from a collective resonance effect.
Just as brain-wave entrainment can occur between two
individuals, it can also be established between group members
chanting together.
The electrical activity of each individual in the group begins to
resonate on a common synchronized wavelength and in phase -
a choir perfectly in tune. Like a coherent group of electrons that
begins to vibrate as one giant electron, the group creates a
resonance that magnifies the individual effect.
6. Chaos and Coherence
Research shows that in states of
stress, anxiety and depression or
anger, the natural variation in
cardiac rhythm becomes weak and
chaotic.
In states of well being, compassion,
gratitude and when attention is
centered on the breathing, this
variability is greater and becomes
coherent.
The subject’s breathing of 6 breaths
per minute or less, also produces
coherence with rhythms of other
autonomous physiological functions,
triggering self-healing capacity of the
body.
7. Coherence
According to research, when we repeat mantra or prayer we
automatically adjust our breath to 6 or less breaths per minute.
This frequency happens to be the natural rhythm of fluctuations
of other biological functions (heart rate, blood pressure, blood
flow to the brain). The result of this synchronization is that the
rhythm of each function resonates in coherence with the other
autonomous physiological functions, mutually reinforcing each
other.
This coherence produced health benefits:
better functioning of immune system,
reduction of inflammation,
better regulation of blood sugar levels
8. Lack of Coherence
Lack of coherence increases with age and is linked to:
High blood pressure
Cardiac insufficiency
Complication from diabetes
Cancer
Fortunately, the balance in biological functions responds very well to
breathing and concentration
9. Cancer and Chanting
As we create repetitive sound, we create sounds at certain
frequency
It has been documented that the frequencies of chanted prayer
are positively impacting our bodies on cellular and organ levels
Cells and organs of the body resonate to frequencies of the
chant, thus being organized and harmonized throughout our
body
Another (dr.M. Emoto) theory postulates that water takes on the
resonance of the energy directed towards it
Our bodies are made of approx. 70% of water
Chanting mantra or prayer changes molecular structure of the water of
the body and brings about the healing process
10. Cancer and Chanting
“When you sing, you pray twice”— St. Augustine
Research done by Alfred Tomatis of the French Academy of
Science and Medicine found that chanting sounds have a
therapeutic effect on the body.
it soothes all our bodily systems
it activates the body’s natural healing process
it also plays a part in reversing heart disease
11. Benefits of Chanting
Relaxes the body and alleviates the stress
Helps to manage the mind – the mind becomes silent
and all the negative and persistent thoughts are
stopped or easily replaced by positive ones
Regulates and balances all body systems:
Strengthens the immune system (to fight against disease)
Reduces inflammation (which causes the disease)
Lowers the blood pressure
Regulates the level of sugar in blood
If done in a group, the effects are multiplied by the
synchronicity of the collective brains
