My Science Webquest!!
There are two parts to the Quest for Science Knowledge. Your first task is to read all the information in the three websites. You need to complete the following quizzes from the Chem4kids website. Record your score for each quiz: 1.Matter overview 2.States of Matter 3.Solids 4.Liquids 5.Gases Your second task is to answer the following questions? 1.What are the three commonly known states of matter? 2.Give two examples of each of these states of matter. 3.In the websites they talk about a 4th state of matter, what is it? 4.What is the most common reason for matter changing its state? 5.What is the type of matter that changes its form very easily? 6.Draw a picture showing some type of matter changing its form.
1.Matter overview 10/10 2.States of Matter 7/10 3.Solids 9/10 4.Liquids6/10 5.Gases9/10 Your second task is to answer the following questions? 1.What are the three commonly known states of matter? Gas, liquid, solid 2.Give two examples of each of these states of matter. Helium and Oxygen is a gas, Water and Petrol is a liquid, Stone and Plastic is a solid 3.In the websites they talk about a 4th state of matter, what is it? Plasmas 4.What is the most common reason for matter changing its state? When energy is taken away or given 5.What is the type of matter that changes its form very easily? Water 6.Draw a picture showing some type of matter changing its form. I drew clay turning into pottery

Task 3. You will visit a web site of clips on Solids, Liquids, and Gases. Read and do the activity. At the end of the activity, click on the Revision Bite. Read the facts and take the quiz. My scores were... ,[object Object]
9/10 for Characteristics of materials
10/10 for Gases, liquids and solids

  • 8.
  • 10. 10/10 for Gases, liquids and solids
  • 13. 9/10 for Solids and liquids
  • 14. I have learned that...
  • 15. Solid, liquid and gas are called the three states of matter. Materials can be changed from one state to another by heating or cooling
  • 16. Materials have different properties that make them useful for different jobs
  • 17. Liquids and gases can flow. Solids keep their shape. Gases can be squashed
  • 18. Metals (for example steel and aluminum) are good thermal conductors
  • 19. Heat only travels from hot things to colder things
  • 20. Substances that dissolve in water are called soluble substances
  • 21. Slate is good for tiling because it can be easily cut into thin sheets
  • 22. Different solids melt at different temperatures, some high some low. These are called their melting points.
  • 23. Task 4: You will visit an interactive web site called “Science Clips” that will let you test reversible and irreversible changes. Observe the different changes by reading through the Revision Bite, and then click the button “Quiz” to test your new knowledge.
  • 24. Water Density Did you know that you can make water more dense? Materials Materials Needed salt blue, red and yellow food coloring (can be different) 4 cups water Instructions 1. Fill all cups but one with ¼ a cup of water, then label each filled cup with either Cup 1, Cup 2 and Cup 3. 2. Put red food coloring in Cup 1, blue food coloring in Cup 2 and yellow food coloring in Cup 3. 3. Then add different amounts of salt to each cup. Add lots of salt to Cup 1, a medium amount of salt in Cup 2, and no salt to the Cup 3. 4. Now, Pour the water in the cups in order into the fourth cup, Cup 1 first, then Cup 2 and then Cup 3. Record what happens. Prediction: I think that Cup 1 that is salt less will float to the top and the Cup 3 with the most salt will sink. I think that this will happen because the salt with make the water heavier and denser, thus making Cup 3 sink to the bottom, Cup 2 float in the middle and Cup 1 float at the top. Results My prediction was correct, the different colored mixtures separated. The saltiest mixture was the densest and heaviest, it stayed at the bottom while the non-salty water floated at the top.
