The Purposes for The Son
The Coming of The Son of Man
John 3:16, explains that God revealed His love towards us by offering
up His only begotten Son for a sacrifice to atone for our sins so that
we may be obtain salvation through the blood of Christ. This act of
salvation requires that the begotten Son fulfils several roles such as:

John sees Jesus coming
unto him, and said,
Behold the Lamb of God,
which taketh away the sin

The Sacrificial Lamb
John the Baptist introduces his cousin Jesus Christ as the
Lamb of God. By saying this, John was pointing to the old
testament tradition concerning the Passover lamb which
was a foreshadow of the coming messiah.

or deformities (Exodus 12:5)

Jesus came to earth as a man

Slain Instructions
The Passover Lamb was slain on the
eve of Passover, on the afternoon
of the 14th day of Nisan, which is
the first month of the Jewish
calendar (Ex 12:6)
Jesus is the Lamb that was
sacrificed at the same time the
lambs were being killed on the
14th day of the first month (Mark
15:25, 31-38)

Guideline Relating to Bones
The Israelites weren’t allowed to
break the bones of the
Passover Lamb. Not during the
cooking and not even during
the eating.
Jesus’ bones didn’t get
broken during the torture,
mockery and His crucifixion.
(John 19:31-36)

Leftover Restrictions
The lamb had to be consumed
entirely on the eve of Passover.
Nothing was to remain
overnight. (Ex 12:8-10)
Jesus was taken off the cross on
the same evening of his
crucifixion, although this wasn’t
customary (John 19:31)

Purpose of the Passover Ritual
The Passover lamb died as a
substitute in the place of the
first-born of the Israelites
Jesus paid the penalty for
every sin by becoming our
sacrificial lamb. Isa 53:7, 1Co
5:7, 1Pe 1:18-19, Mat 26:2

Purpose of the Passover Ritual
The Israelites had to sprinkle the blood
of the lamb on their doorposts as a sign
to God. Whoever stayed in the house
behind the blood of the lamb was safe
from God’s judgment Ex 12:7,12-13
Whoever stays with Jesus and
does His will, the blood of
Jesus will keep them safe from
judgment. Rom 5:8-10

Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and
without shedding of blood is no remission.

Benefits of The Passover Ritual
The Passover lamb ritual was
instituted by God to remind
the Israelites of their liberation
from slavery and bondage in
Egypt.
Jesus’ sacrifice sets us free us
from the bondage of sin.

Benefits of The Passover Ritual
The lamb had to be consumed
entirely on the eve of Passover
Jesus’s sacrifice provide the
opportunity for us to become
beneficiaries of a new testament.
His body is our unleavened bread
and His blood our wine.
