war in Europe.
2. Cause and Reason
Hitler's quick dominance of Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, and
France spread fear among neighboring countries.
Britain's Royal Air Force was attacked by Hitlers Luftwaffe (air force).
Hitler assumed he could easily conquer Britain through a number of
bombings, but the British Air Force triumphed over the Nazi power.
Hitler broke his peace pact with Stalin and invaded Russia, all for the
cause of his master plane of Europe being Aryan.
The Holocaust, the annihilation of the Jewish race, was set into
effect.
3. Battles Of Europe
On December 7th 1941 Japan attacked the United States Naval Base, Pearl Harbor,
because America refused to sell oil to Japan while fighting for Germany. This battle
resulted in American entrance into WWII.
On June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-
fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy,
France. ”More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion,
and by day’s end on June 6, the Allies gained a foot- hold in Normandy. The D-Day
cost was high -more than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded.
The Battle of the Bulge, fought over the winter months of 1944 – 1945, was the last
major Nazi offensive against the Allies in World War Two. The battle was a last ditch
attempt by Hitler to split the Allies in two in their drive towards Germany and destroy
their ability to supply themselves. The Battle of the Bulge started on December 16th
1944. Hitler had convinced himself that the alliance between Britain, France and
America in the western sector of Europe was not strong and that a major attack and
defeat would break up the alliance. Therefore, he ordered a massive attack against
what were primarily American forces. The attack is strictly known as the Ardennes
Offensive but because the initial attack by the Germans created a bulge in the Allied
front line, it has become more commonly known as the Battle of the Bulge.
4. The Beyond War
After the war in Europe Germany was forced to
pay for all damages it had caused during battle.
Germany also had to admit that they were the
cause of WWII and account for the loss of
civilian life.
Also the United Nations was created in order to
prevent such devastation from occurring again.
