Old hierarchical f2f teaching and learning paradigms giving way to new paradigm of a networked world with virtual communities. Was 2007 and interviewing participants in Taiwan for diss. And I learned.by fourth interview realized it wasn’t about the language learning or the fancy technology—it was all about the human connection. What it means for you ad this workshop is that we’ll be exploring a new frontier for learning. Online Social Networks represent a paradigm shift! Goal of workshop is to provide an appreciation for the power of social networks to create learning environments that accelerate learning through peer to peer relationships, and a movement from teacher as sage on stage to guide at (virtual) side. Will show a spectrum of technology and social networking—f2f and online—and how they combined to accelerate performance outcomes.

Moving from facilitating as teachers and trainers into a virtual space, and virtual community. Will look now at facilitation as a cross-cultural e-mentor …
The focus of the e-mentoring program was online collaborative problem-solving between Sri Lankan faculty and professional and graduate students from the University of New Mexico, USA. One type of training was the professional development of faculty, tutors, and mentors who would be responsible for facilitating the learning process of online courses offered through NODES. The case study centers on the portion of the course that used e-mentoring to teach protégés, all Sri Lankan faculty and professionals, collaborative problem-solving skills in an asynchronous online environment.
