Hello…and welcome to ARTPRIZE2012. i am kevin e collander. i am a fine art
watercolorist & multi-media artist. My artwork is “. A Picture of Dorian Gray .”, “Seeing
Wood…Illuminations”, the newest member of my growing collection of artworks
exploring “. artistically notated notations . the musical score…the book…”. Welcome to
my artwork.
“The artist is the creator of beautiful things.”
Oscar Wilde begins his preface to “The Picture of Dorian Gray” with these words. He
ends his preface with:
“All art is quite useless.”
Why? Beyond the evocative and timeless themes of art, beauty, vanity, depravity and
longevity expressed so hauntingly in this classic novel, the preface alone stirs one’s blood
and emotions. It is quite a read and the focus of my artwork.
i am scratching the surface of this complex emotional story and complex emotional
author with this expressive look at the preface alone. This artwork provides no answers.
This artwork provides a challenging, evocative, contemplative and introspective journey.
This artwork is a novel experience.
i am an artist and i am a “creator of beautiful things.” i hope that you do not find my art to
be “quite useless.”
So explore…flip the pages, read and enjoy…
