5. Mongolian National Emblem The National emblem shall be based on the white lotus of purity. The outer frame shall be the "Tumen Nasan" of eternity in the shape of a blue sphere symbolizing the eternal sky. In the centre shall be a combination of the Golden Soyombo and the Treasured Steed, an expression of the independence, sovereignty and spirit of Mongolia. In the upper part shall be placed the Chandmani which grants wishes and symbolizes the past, present and future. In the lower part shall be a green background of mountains representing Mother Earth and the Wheel of Destiny. Mixed in with the Wheel of Destiny shall be a khadag - a scarf symbolizing welcome

8. CLIMATE The Country Has Four Seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. It Has a Semi-arid Continental Climate. It Has Low Humidity, Low Precipitation and High Evapo-transpiration. Winter Temperature Average –35 0C, While the Summer Average +30 0C. Snow and Rainfall Are Low, the Climate Being Arid. However, Enough Rain Usually Occurs in July and August to Swell Rivers, and Snow Blizzards Can Occur in Winter.

9. NATURAL RESOURCES Oil, Coal, Copper, Molybdenum, Tungsten, Phosphates, Tin, Nickel, Zinc, Wolfram, Fluorspar, Gold, Silver, Iron, Phosphate The agricultural land of Mongolia is 130173.5 thousand hectares, of which 317.6 thousand hectares is for crop production

10. AGRICULTURE The agricultural sector in Mongolia has been and is still responsible for a great proportion of the countries economy The agricultural sector produces over 20% of the GDP and employs about 40% of the total workforce. The livestock sector produces 80% of the total agricultural production. The number of livestock has in creased during past 4 years and reached to 40.2 million heads of by end of 2007.

11. AGRICULTURE According to the preliminary harvest estimates in 2007 the crop sector has produced 114,400 tons of sereals and 192,700 tons of potatoes and vegetables, providing 98.2% of domestic potato demand and 25% of flour harvest reguirements.

12. AGRICULTURE Nationwide,there are 720 processing enterprises are in the food and agricultural sector that employ more than 7000 people and manufacture products worth over 117.8 billion tugriks equal to 27.6% of the nations total manufactured goods.

17. National Agricultural Extension Center was established by the Government under Ministry of Food and Agriculture in November, 1996. The center operates with main objectives to provide with technical and business advice to food producers, herders, crop producers, and assist them through advice on the beneficial running of their farm business, and provide regular updated /new/ information to producers.

18. National Agricultural Extension Center(NAEC) The NAEC was establishedby Mongolian Government resolution # 286 on 28th November 1996 in line with the recommendationof the ADB

21. Responsibilities of the AEC The main objective of the AEC is to provide technical methodological advices to agricultural producers, entities and organizations of all ownership types to run their business in efficient ways through the improvement of human resource skills, assist them in introducing scientific achievements, advanced techniques and technologies on contractual basis, and act as mediator.

22. Main activities of the NAEC are as follows: 1.Conducting trainings · Specialized training for local extension workers, subject matter specialists of the branches and guest advisors from the research institutions; · Technical trainings and seminars on agriculture and livestock for farmers and herders of provinces (aimag) and sub districts (soum); · Trainings conducted by local Agricultural Extension Centers and teams; · Distance learning courses for farmers, herders; · All type of trainings which meet farmers demand and interest on food and agriculture production;

25. Information dissemination and advocacy Information diffusion through Mongolian TV and radio program, newspaper and magazines; Select and disseminate new agriculture related information to the farmers and herders from the internet and other formal resources through the mass media; Distribute the brochures, handouts and pamphlets to the farmers and herders through extension network;
