1. 2 How effective is the
combination of your
main product and the
ancillary texts?
2. I believe that the film poster and the radio trailer were a success in connection to our main media
product. We included elements of our film in the film poster and in the radio trailer so they all
interlinked. This would mean it would be clear that both ancillary texts were in relation to our
main product. Our main intention was in creating a film poster that reflected the genre of our film
clearly (crime thriller). Before we created the film poster we researched and looked into different
film posters which were the same genre of our film. This helped us realize what a typical crime
thriller poster had on it and how it was displayed to reflect the genre. This meant we looking into:
colors, layout, font, characters position etc. I think the film poster does well in a way that it
includes elements from our main product. For example, the yellow tape is visible for a reason in
the background of the film poster to indicate there is some element of crime in the film. Also the
surveillance camera at the top right corner of the film poster implies there is some spying in the
film. The dark colors present the atmosphere that is reflected in the secluded room in which the
main character is trapped. The film poster also features the ratings, main actors names and some
awards it had won. This makes the poster seem more professional and real. When to creating the
film poster it was essential that we included an age certificate rating and the production company
name, this made it seem more realistic and professional.

3. Similar posters
We looked at real existing film
poster products to look at what sort
of codes and conventions were
shown to help influence our film
poster. A film poster that we
analyzed was "Buried“ which did
help influence our film. An aspect of
the film poster which I thought was
specifically good was the tagline at
the top of the poster. The tagline
created an element of excitement
and anticipation for the audience.
We used this and made a similar
tagline (but shorter) in ‘one rule,
stay alive’ to help create the sense
of anticipation.
4. Radio trailer
The radio trailer was more difficult to make as there
were very few examples of radio trailers the same
genre of ours. The radio trailer involved direct
dialogue from the main media product film, this was
successful in linking the radio trailer and the main
media product to make a relevant ancillary text. Key
information about the film such as the main
characters names and the title of the film were
included in the trailer. This may help attract our
target audience to come and see the film as they may
be familiar and fans of the cast. The voice over that
we used was effective in getting the audience’s
attention due to the sinister and quite mysterious
voice over we used. It also enabled us to create the
sinister and thrilling atmosphere we have in the main
media product.
