The presentation introduces the information literacy services provided by the UAH Library. It defines information literacy as the set of skills needed to find, retrieve, analyze, and use information. The library provides information literacy instruction through embedded workshops and online tutorials that teach students research skills using active, collaborative learning methods. Services include information literacy workshops, research consultations, and embedding librarians in classes and distance education courses.

4.  Information Literacy is the set of skills needed to find, retrieve,
analyze, and use information.
 This is the information age!
 Information literacy equips them with the critical skills necessary
to become independent lifelong learners.
 “Too often we assume that as students write research papers
and read textbooks they are gaining sufficient IL skills. This is not
so. IL skills may be introduced but what is needed is a parallel
curriculum in IL forming a strong foundation of a college

 Basically information literacy is setting up the skills to be a life-
long, engaged learner!
What is Information Literacy?

5.  For students to learn information literacy it must be
embedded.
 We focus on student centered learning and sticking to
complete instructional design methods and active,
collaborative learning theories.
 Each session is designed around informed learning. They
will leave with hands on practice and part of their research
finished.
 Active, informed learning of information literacy produces
many positive outcomes for students and faculty.
