The combination of the main Foster the People album and ancillary materials like the CD packaging is effective because:
1) Consistent fonts, colors, and imagery like the shoe from "Pumped Up Kicks" are used throughout to connect everything and make the band recognizable.
2) Information like the record label logos and websites are included to provide context and opportunities for fan engagement.
3) Lyrics, quotes and photos of the band members are presented to give fans opportunities to relate to the music and artists on a deeper level.
2. Digipack designs
We have used the same font for the name of the band all the way through our ancillary tasks, to make
it recognisable to fans. We have also used the same colour and font for the song titles on the back and
the front. We have used the shoe all the way through the ancillary tasks also as it is recognisable and
the song ‘pumped up kicks’ is also about the same shoe. So it connects our main products to our
ancillary tasks. We also thought it would be a good idea to put the logos of the record labels on the
back of the CD cover so that fans know who they signed by and the websites so they can see what
other bands that they have signed.
3. This is the back of our digipack designs. We decided to have the lyrics on as
fans can learn the songs and sing along to our main product. We have also
included the shoe again as it is recognisable and used on the front cover of
our digipack. We also decided to have a thank you to make the fans fell
related to the band, and have a quote from Mark Foster the lead singer of the
band and song writer. We thought this quote related to the song we did as it
gives detail to why he wrote the song and his inspiration to writing songs
about ‘real life’ issues, which the fans can then again relate to.
4. Insert
We decided to have an insert with 4 pictures of
the band, we thought it would let fans recognise
with the band and the genre and give them a
better feel for the band. It also promotes star
image, and it shows that all band members are
equal. And sends out a good signal as fans can
see the pictures of the band having a ‘good time’
together. All members of the band are in these
pictures so it links to the main product.
