  8. Please take a moment to remember when you were an elementary or junior high school student. Did you enjoy your classes? Were there any classes that you didn’t like ? Which subject didn’t you like ?
  9. A “game jam” is an event / where developers and students make games together / in a short period of time Game jams generally have a theme, / and the teams are put together at random.
  10. Game Jams are very popular in Japan. Global Game Jam and Fukushima Game Jam are / two of the most popular game jams in Japan. Tons of great games get made at these events, / but serious games are rarely made. We decided to capitalizeキャピタライズ on the popularity of Game Jams in Japan / and make our own Game Jam focusedフォーカスド on serious games.
  11. Our goal was to help with the research and visibilityビジビリティ of serious games.
  12. We got many people who had never made / or heard of a serious game before to join our game jam. Fourteen working professionals (game developers, game researchers, and English education specialists) and twenty-one students participated in our game jam. They splitスプリット into five teams and made five unique English Learning Games over the span of two days.

  14. Let me introduce 5 games we have produced.
  15. “Riddlesウリドル in Pieces”, is an escape adventure game. The purpose of the game is to teach grammar.
  16. “Bizarre! Mystery of the English Troopsトループス”, is an action game where phantomファンタムズ attack the player. The purpose of the game is to help children honeホーン their listening skills.
  17. "Alpha! Beta! Collector!" is an action game. The purpose of the game is to increase the vocabulary of the player.
  18. "Word Bridge", is a car action game. This game is also for expanding tha players vocabulary.
  19. “Big Big Dragon” ,is a game about dragon training. The purpose of the game is to practice listening skills.
  20. The games were tested by elementary and high school students. The students’ opinions and feedback were / implemented before the games were published to the internet.

  22. Our event had five important features / that made it unique when compared to other game jams. We started with a concept sheet contest. Each of the participants created their own game concept.
  23. From the concept sheets, / the participants chose / which game they wanted to work on.
  24. During the game jam, / the teams presented their game’s progress to a panel of experts. The experts gave each team feedback on their games. After the game jam, the teams received feedback from students about their games.
  25. The game jam took place over fifteen hours. The teams did not stay overnight, which is very rare for a game jam.
  26. The teams used Facebook to communicate and prepare for the game jam / in advance.
  27. Many of them said / that they wouldウッド like to participateパーテシペイト in future Serious Game Jams. We hope to continue holding Serious Game Jams / for many years to come.
