More Facts… Triggered 2 quick aftershocks, each with a magnitude of at least 5.5 The major earthquake triggered 33 aftershocks all together ranging in magnitude of 4.2 to 5.9 Strongest earthquake since 1770 Also felt by other countries such as Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Venezuela.
Damage from Earthquake 3 million people in need of emergency aid after major earthquake The Red Cross dispatched a relief team from Geneva and the UN's World Food Program is flying in two planes with emergency food aid. The Inter-American Development Bank said it was immediately approving a $200,000 grant for emergency aid.
Why Haiti was so Vulnerable Haiti has no real construction standards. A large number of buildings collapsed including the President’s palace, and National Assembly building.
Previous Quakes in Haiti 1751 Port-au-Prince earthquake (18 October): According to French historian Moreau de Saint-Mery, “only one masonry building had not collapsed” in Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital (3 June): The city was leveled in this magnitude 7.5 quake, which killed over 200 people  May 7th  1842: An earthquake destroyed the city of Cap-Haitien and other towns in the north of Haiti and the Dominican Republic; this earthquake also destroyed the Sans-Souci Palace. 10,000 people were killed.
Previous Quakes 1946 on August 4th, Dominican Republic Earthquake: This 8.0-magnitude earthquake also shook Haiti, producing a tsunami that killed 1,790 people tsunami

It has so far spent or allocated $82 million to meet the most urgent needs of the earthquakes survivors and will continue to support hundreds of thousands of additional survivors in the years ahead until the last donated dollar is spent.
It is also providing support to Haitian families in the US, shipping blood products to the region and restoring family links for separated loved ones.,[object Object]
Red Cross Water and Sanitation 30 million liters of drinking water have been distributed. An estimated 290,000 people are benefiting from this regular service. More than 580 latrines have been built near settlements
Red Cross Shelter More than 350,000 people received shelter supplies including tents, tarps and tools.
World Wide Donations The American Red Cross is one of the widely know organizations working in Haiti. There are many ways to donate Haiti. Some are online donations, Red Cross accepts $10 donations, charged to your cell phone bill, by texting HAITI to 90999
Celebrity Donations Many celebrities donated money, went to Haiti to volunteer, and created charity groups for Haiti.
