QUESTION 4: How did you use media technologies in the research, planning,
construction and evaluation?
I usedMicrosoftapplicationslikePowerpointinorderto presentmy researchinformationformy
final product,thisgave me inspirationandadeeper knowledgeandunderstandingintothingslike
historyof musicvideosandwhere theycome from.Itwas a goodway to presentmyresearchand
my findingsinasimplisticwaywhere itiseasyto interpretmysecondarydataand lookback on
whenitactuallycame to construct my work. Thismeansthat reference backtomyinformation
wouldbe well organisedandeasilyaccessibleaswell asshowingmyskills usingotherapplications.
I usedothermediaplatformslikeSlideshare whichmeantthatIhad easyandorganisedaccessto
thingslike mystoryboardwhichI referred toduringthe shootingprocessof ourvideo.Thismeant
that we had a constructive displayof how we wantedourvideotoprimarilylooklike,evenif atthe
endit wasn’trepresentedinthe waythatwe originally plannedtoshow.Atthe endwe had a plan
and a guidelinethatwe followedtomake the mostoutof the time we hadto filmthe video.
We usedthe CanonEO5 Rebel T3i inorder to filmourmusicvideo aswell astake pictures because
of the highqualityof image andvideo,goodcapabilityof the cameraand it’s‘easy’,‘simple’ use.
Thismeantthat previousexperience of usingthisparticularcamerawhencompletingmyGCSEand
AS workhelpedsince Iwasalreadyfamiliarwiththe camerabeforehandmakingcapturingfootage
easier.
For the editingof ourmusicvideowe used“Final CutPro” where we appliedfilterslike blackand
white andslowmotiontoshowthe flashbackof the past allowingthe audience totell the difference
betweenpastandpresent. Butalsoslowmotiontoenhance and enforce the ideaof making‘the
momentlastforlonger’ithelpedshowthe charactersemotionsandhow theyfeel. Essentially,we
usededitingtechniquestorepresentanidea.
We purchasedourtrack from iTunestoshow a betterqualityof audiosowhenitcame to editing we
wouldbe able tomatch the soundwiththe visuals.Thishelpedusbe able to putthe videotogether
and enforcedthe syncingof the performance andthe visuals.Even thoughourperformancewas
slightlyoutof sync,the nexttime we wouldrecordthe videowe will use the same copy of the
soundtrackto ease ourtask whenitcame to editing.
Usingthe dismakerswebsite meansthatIwas able to getthe template withthe exact
measurementsof the proportionsof anactual CD coverwhichmeantthat myfront,back and inside
tray had realisticmeasurementscomplyingwiththe settask of creatingalbumcovers.Itcomplies
withthe industrystandardsandreflectsadegree of professionalismwhichcouldreflect onthe
future andit givesme an ideaof how the mediaindustrycoversare created.
Whenme and Jenniferwere constructingouralbumcoverswe usedmobiletechnologybecausewe
usedtwo editingapplications(facetuneand AfterLight)inordertoeditthe picturesand‘smooth
themout’before applyingthe Adobe Phtotoshopon itandcompletingthe taskbyaddingfont, text,
informationandgradients. Usingourphones wasalsoaway for usto communicate andsendeach
otherinformation,picturesandanotherplatformtodiscussourideasaboutthe projectandancillary
tasks.
In orderto construct ourancillarytask1 & 2 we usedPhotoshopandmanydifferenttoolsonitlike
the black andwhite filter,the saturationandbrightnesstomake the image ‘pop’andbe visible also
breakingstereotypesthatall popcoversdon’tneedtobe bright. For our ideologywe presented a
‘controversial’ ideawithpotentiallycreatingahomosexualcouple.We wantedtocreate the ideaof

us beingunique andpresentacoverthatwouldbe differentfromthe expectedoneswe see inthe
media.
We hada visionof creatingan inside coverof the albumcoverto be blackand white withthe pink
flowersstandingoutasthe motif of our videowhichwaswell co-operatedintothe whole of the
albumcover. We thoughtthatmakingthe flowersstandoutwas an importantelementof the cover
because itconnectswiththe motif thatwe presentinthe musicvideo.
I learnedanewskill of beingable tocreate a gradientonthe image that wasusedas the billboard
advertisementwhichhelpedme gainanew skill andabilitytouse with Photoshop fromanew
perspective frommypreviousexperience of Photoshop.Ienjoyedthistaskmore thatthe creationof
the musicvideosince Iprefereditingstill imagescomparedtoonesthatare moving.
We used Weebly.comas a platformthatwouldcollate all ourresearch, planning, final productsetc.,
where we were able tolayout all of our informationinaneasywayalsohelpingusdevelopthe
usage of a newplatformandgive usthe abilitytocreate a well andeasyfunctioningwebsite. This
was alsoa way thatwe couldshare our workinthe instance of teamwork/group work,toshare our
data and findingwitheachother.
For the evaluationIusedthree mediaplatformstopresentmyfindingsof whatIhave learnedover
the course of the course.I was able touse Microsoftword to constructmy workthat I later
uploadedtoSlideshare andfinallypresentedin Weebly.Thisshowshow aware Iam as well asthe
importance of knowing howmanymediaplatforms canintegrate tomake the final productandit
showsall mywork comingtogetherintoone.
