5. In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again. The rabbit-hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way, and then dipped suddenly down, so suddenly that Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself before she found herself falling down a very deep well. Either the well was very deep, or she fell very slowly, for she had plenty of time as she went down to look about her and to wonder what was going to happen next. “ ~ Alice in Wonderland Professional Development in Virtual Worlds

20. `Wake up, Alice dear!' said her sister; `Why, what a long sleep you've had!' `Oh, I've had such a curious dream!' said Alice, and she told her sister, as well as she could remember them, all these strange Adventures of hers that you have just been reading about; and when she had finished, her sister kissed her, and said, `It was a curious dream, dear, certainly: but now run in to your tea; it's getting late.' So Alice got up and ran off, thinking while she ran, as well she might, what a wonderful dream it had been. But her sister sat still just as she left her, leaning her head on her hand, watching the setting sun, and thinking of little Alice and all her wonderful Adventures, till she too began dreaming after a fashion, and this was her dream… “ ~ Alice in Wonderland Professional Development in Virtual Worlds

PBS is not just a television resource. It is much more than a pledge drive or Lawrence Welk… not that there is anything wrong with that! Each broadcast created now includes segments that are streamable online in addition to the option of purchasing DVD copies. You as an educator have the ability to record on-air episodes and show in your classroom for teaching purposes up to 1 year. I will show you where to find more information about your copyrights as an educator later in our time together. Each of the episodes also includes detailed Teacher Guides and complimentary lesson plans and teaching resources on the National Endowment for the Humanities educator site – Edsitement. I will also encourage you to participate in PBS Teachers Connect to explore other resources and see how they can support what you find for your curriculum from We Shall Remain.
Simply Box is a visual social bookmarking tool that allows you to collect and share web resources in a variety of layouts –and add additional comments to those sites. If you give it public access, it can also become a dynamic community that offers others a chance to comment on the sites you have collected. I would encourage you to make comments on my sites as you explore and share what you find most beneficial. What would you use in your work with other teachers, and ultimately in the teaching you do with students?
http://pbs.org/teachers PBS Teachers Connect is the collaborative set of tools within PBS Teachers. It is free to create a login. Once you have created a login, it will allow you to customize your profile, and identify with your local PBS affiliate station, and other discussions that might be going on in your community.
Are there pieces in your current curriculum, and in your state’s standards, that allow your students to see a glimpse of themselves in the history you teach? Think for just a minute – and then take a minute in chat to share some ways you help “Personalize” and make history relevant.
