There are a lot of talented girl students, who are good in studies, but find it difficult to
advance due to adverse circumstances. They may be poor, might have lost a parent, be in
hard times or be hailing from a rural background. I have felt that they should also be given a
fair chance to compete with the others and prove their ability. And I have always wanted to
bring about a positive change in such lives.
• The time has now arrived. We have almost completed the construction of a hostel facility for
about 50 young girls, hailing from poor circumstances, and studying in classes ranging from
5th to 12th, at Parappur. The hostel is located in the very same compound where
‘Santhimandiram’, the old age home with about 38 inmates, is already functioning. The
students would be enrolled and be studying at the St. Johns Higher Secondary School, where
I did my schooling. All food, stay, educational and such other expenses, shall be borne by us
and offered free.
3. • The building itself would have five separate dormitories and each would accommodate about
10 girls. Each dormitory would have separate bedrooms, study rooms, attached bathrooms,
wardrobes and other facilities. Common amenities would include library, guest room, TV
room, dining room and a kitchen. An educated, experienced lady caretaker, above 45 years,
would be appointed to assume responsibility of each of the dormitory. The caretakers would
be living with the students and would take care of their studies as well as stay. The C.M.C
Sisters of Nirmala Province, Kolazhy, Thrissur, who manage the ‘Santhimandiram’, would
supervise the day to day affairs of the hostel. The facility is expected to be ready before the
commencement of the next academic year. Hopefully, a small attempt to dispel the darkness
from the life of many a young, bright girl.
• If you know of a needy girl student, who meets the above criteria, you may recommend her.
It would give her an opportunity to grow and flower in a healthy environment. Please also
bring this to the attention of your Panchayath, self help group or local church and help us
identify those who are truly deserving. Please contact 0487 2285668, 9446095227,
