ODI Declarative Design
Conventional ETL Design
ETL Data Flow Graph - Laborious
• Developer must define every step of Complex ETL
Flow Logic
• Traditional approach requires specialized ETL skills
• And significant development and maintenance
efforts
ODI - Declarative Set-based Design
• Simplifies the number of steps
• Automatically generates the Data Flow whatever
the sources and target DB
Benefits
 Significantly reduce the learning curve
 Shorter implementation times
 Streamline access to non-IT pros Define How: Built-in Templates

BI Applications 11.1.1.7.1 Components
①ODI Java EE Agent
 Deployed in WLS
 Component that orchestrates ODI processes for ETL
②ODI Console
 Web Application deployed into WLS
 Used to monitor ETL
③ODI Studio Desktop Client
 Manages ODI artifacts
 Windows and Linux
Unpacking The New Oracle BI Apps (Now With ODI!)
BI Applications 11.1.1.7.1 Components
• Contains extract and load
mappings divided into
SDEs, SILOS and PLPs
• Supports incremental
aggregate loads. No
truncate and full Aggregate
loads.
• Separate SCD and
Unspecified mappings are
not required as it is now
handled by KMs.
Unpacking The New Oracle BI Apps (Now With ODI!)
BI Applications 11.1.1.7.1 Components
① Behind-the-scenes utility for generating ODI load plans (think
execution plans) to orchestrate data load based on selected
fact groups
② LPG uses Configuration Manager and ODI metadata to
create a load plan containing only appropriate tasks to load
desired fact groups
③ Set of library files deployed into WLS
Unpacking The New Oracle BI Apps (Now With ODI!)
BI Applications 11.1.1.7.1 Components
① A Load Plan is an executable object in ODI that can contain a hierarchy
of steps that can be executed conditionally, in parallel, or in series.
 A Load Plan is the largest executable object in ODI, using scenarios in
its steps.
② Packages, interfaces, variables, and procedures can be added to Load
Plans for executions in scenarios.
 Load plans are not substitutes for packages or scenarios,
but are used to organize at a higher level, the execution of packages
and scenarios.
③ Load Plans also support exception handling strategies, in the event a
scenario ends in error.
Unpacking The New Oracle BI Apps (Now With ODI!)
BI Applications 11.1.1.7.1 Components
 Business Analytics Warehouse
 BI Applications Components Repository
 BI Applications ODI Repository (Work and Master)
Unpacking The New Oracle BI Apps (Now With ODI!)
BI Applications 11.1.1.7.1 Components
 Supported on 64-bit
platforms
 Pre built BI Application
content (RPD and web
catalog)
 A “best practice” library of
over pre-built metrics,
dashboards and reports.
 Leverages new
visualization features like
Performance Tiles

Source Dependent Data Store (SDS)
• Optional, requires additional licenses
• A separate schema on the BI Apps DW database
• replication of the source OLTP systems tables via Golden Gate.
• Modular control on a Fact by Fact / Dimension by Dimension basis.
• Can be leveraged for operational reporting.
Golden Gate
• Replication of data in heterogeneous data environments.
• Enables high availability solutions, real-time data integration, transactional
change data capture, data replication, transformations, and verification between
operational and analytical enterprise systems.
• A service that can be deployed on both Source and Target databases for
continuous asynchronous change data capture in real-time.

Flexibility
Performance
 Near-zero impact of ongoing extraction.
 No ETL batch load windows required as near real time ETL can be
enabled.
 Full ETL reloads can be executed without taxing the source system.
 Consistent CDC approach regardless of source.
 Hard deletes in source generates Golden Gate events.
 Transformations and star loads all local in BI Apps DW schema.
 Ability to change indexes, add views.
 Perfect source for real-time reporting requirements.

  14. A Load Plan is an executable object in Oracle Data Integrator that can contain a hierarchy of steps that can be executed conditionally, in parallel, or in series. The leaves of this hierarchy are scenarios. The set of scenarios that makes up a Load Plan can involve the execution of packages, interfaces, variables, and procedures. Load Plans also support exception handling strategies in the event of a scenario ending in error. Load Plans can be started, stopped, and restarted from a command line, from Oracle Data Integrator Studio, Oracle Data Integrator Console, or a Web Service interface. They can also be scheduled using the runtime agent’s built-in scheduler or an external scheduler. When a Load Plan is executed, a Load Plan Instance is created. Each attempt to run this Load Plan Instance is a separate Load Plan Run. A Load Plan can be modified in production environments and steps can be enabled or disabled according to the production needs. Load Plan objects can be designed and viewed in the Designer and Operator Navigators. Various design operations (such as create, edit, delete, and so forth) can be performed on a Load Plan object if a user connects to a development Work Repository, but some design operations will not be available in an execution Work Repository. After it is created, a Load Plan is stored in the Work Repository. The Load Plan can be exported then imported to another repository and executed in different contexts.
  15. Repository for Configuration Manager and FSM Contains BI Apps product hierarchy, setup objects (parameters, domain mappings), list of functional tasks, load plan definitions * In this release, all repositories are only supported on Oracle DB.
  16. Use Cases Supported Customer upgrading later to an SDS architecture without needing to restart their ETL Customer deploying one module using the SDS and switching other modules to using the SDS as they go along Customer switching back an incremental to the OLTP for sourcing data (for whatever reason) even as a one off. GoldenGate – a service on both database systems that performs: On the source database system - continuous asynchronous change data capture 'CDC' at a low level in the database, then compresses and ships the changed data across the network to… On the target database system - receives the changed data from one or more source systems and loads them into the target database (into the SDS schemas, 1 per source).
  17. Drastically Reduced Impact on Source System & Reduced ETL Runtimes Dedicated Copy of Source Tables in BI Apps DW
