The Cleveland Browns began playing in 1946 as part of the All-American Football Conference, winning the league's first championship in their inaugural season. After joining the NFL in 1950, the Browns found great success behind legendary running back Jim Brown in the 1950s and 60s, including under new owner Art Modell who purchased the franchise in 1961.
