Trajan is a serif typeface designed in 1989 by Carol Twombly for Adobe based on the letterforms used in the inscription on Trajan's Column in Rome. As the inscription only included capital letters, Trajan is an all-caps typeface, though an updated version includes small caps. While Twombly's version was very literal, other interpretations predated hers from the 1920s-1930s with added lowercase letters, though some like Warren Chappell's had a distinctly medieval lowercase.
