Attraction In Interpersonal Relationships
Interpersonal attraction, as defined by social psychologists, refers to attitudinal positivity (Huston
and Levinger, 1978). Although, this attitudinal positivity may not refer a romantic attraction, it still
refers to an attraction that is compelling enough to form a relationship with another individual.
Interpersonal relationships are formed when an individual feels the 'need to affiliate'. This 'need to
affiliate' is critically important to human beings. Individuals who achieve high levels of affiliation
often form successful interpersonal relationships. Those who develop strong relationships with other
members of society acquire a strong sense of belonging which contributes to a higher level of self
esteem. There are many factors that influence the formation of successful ... Show more content on

Physical attraction can be linked to evolutionary factors, where gender differences arise due to
reproductive costs. Generally males experience low reproductive costs primarily as they primarily
focus on the fertility cues of the female, and are strongly entranced by an absence of grey hair, a
girlish figure and high energy levels. Whereas, females are exposed to high cost whilst creating
offspring, as they focus on the intelligence cues of males and search for the provision of food,
shelter and resources. Wilson (1986) claims that sexual attractions can be clarified by the
comprehension of 'survival efficiency'. He argues that it is the role of males to impregnate as many
females as feasible; this is due to males' high sperm count, which would ensure a large level of
offspring. However, females are only capable of producing one egg at a time, meaning they can only
ensure the survival of relatively fewer offspring. For this reason, females usually seek a high status
and wealth in a male, while males search for a salubrious physical appearance as this conveys

What Does A Social Psychology Research Tell Us About...
Research Topic
What does recent social psychology research tell us about factors that enhance or deter attraction to
others? Are people predictable on any of these contributing factors? Are there attraction factors that
are universally the same? Explain. Are their differences in friend attraction and romantic attraction?
Why? How does attraction differ by age and/or gender? Provide examples. Are these individual
and/or linked to the cultural context? What does the empirical literature tell us about cross–cultural
(not cross–racial) attraction and what influences the formation and continuation of these types of
relationships? Are their advantages and/or disadvantages with cross–cultural relationships? Explain,
and provide scientifically supported pros and cons with examples. What types of attraction are not
explained by current attraction theory?
Main Question: What are the different influencing factors, types, and effects of attraction?
In studying interpersonal attraction and the many different psychological and societal aspects that
accompany it, there are many patterns that seem to form amongst individuals when presented with a
situation that involves attraction to or from another being. Some of these patterns are in reference to
either the factors leading up to and predicting attraction, or in reference to the reactions that
individuals have to any sort of physical attraction stimulus.
For factors leading up to being able to predict attraction between individuals, there

Port Noarlunga Reef is Adelaide’s Main Attraction
Introduction: The Port Noarlunga Reef is Adelaide's main attraction. The reef exists on the eastern
side of Gulf St Vincent discovered in 1971 and used for about 36 years. This narrow reef is a
sandstone reef as it was formed by sand dunes. The reef is 1.6km long and lying 400m offshore. The
reef is separated to two where on one of the sides the species are protected and is a reserve while the
other side is where the species are not endangered which includes a mix of heterotrophs and
autotrophs. In this part of the reef you can fish or do activities such as boating, snorkelling, Scuba
diving, swimming, and recreational fishing. Many focus on snorkelling and Scuba diving, which
makes Port Noarlunga reef special and attracts 170,000 visitors per year. The ability to interact with
the species and swim and snorkel or scuba dive makes the experience much more natural and fun
and hence makes this place Adelaide number one attraction. There is also a underwater trail where
this gives education to the youth and also enhances the experience in marine ecosystem. Positives:
The human impact on the reef has caused a lot of damage and so in 1971 the City of Onkaparinga,
State Government, Coast care groups and environmental organisations all had supported a decision
to protect the reef. So the reef has now a reserved part which is protected and separated from the one
open to tourists. The positive effect of human intervention has been creating this 300 ha of aquatic

Iroquois Confederacy. The lakes water was crystal clear. The surrounding land was very clean and
pristine. All of the forests, streams and creeks were healthy and well.Eventually European settlers
came to the area. With them they brought new technology and rapidly made industries grow and
develop. Industry and rapid urbanization of Syracuse impacted the surrounding areas because the
more the people came, the more it got polluted, many attractions came along like a amusement park
and shopping, many job opportunities, newer industries and a bigger population. Onondaga Lake has
brought many things to this area. One of them being getting polluted as said in Document 1. The
sewage was dumped into onondaga creek, whichs happens to lead into the lake. That is one of the
factors that has increased the pollution. It was the simplest and closest way to dispose of the waste.
There was about 55 years of dumping into the lake. In Document 2 the industry Solvay Process
Company quickly took its place in the salt city industry alongside the lake. The company helped
pollute the lake because they were a main company that dumped into the lake with their sewage. The

Walt Disney 's Theme Park
July 17, 1955, marked the grand opening of Walt Disney's first major theme park opening. Since
1955, Walt Disney's idea of a theme park has adapted to more than just a carnival.
Currently there are six Disney theme parks worldwide. The United States holds two theme parks,
Disneyland Park in California and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. China also holds two
theme parks, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Disneyland Shanghai. While, Japan and Paris only hold
one theme park, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. Each new Disney park strives to be
unique, create fun attractions and serve cuisine that appeal to the citizens of its location but remain
consistently classic.

Disneyland Hong Kong has seven themed lands. Similarly to Disneyland Anaheim, Adventureland,
Tomorrowland, Fantasyland and Main Street USA are all feature themed lands at Disneyland Hong
Kong. In contrast Grizzly Gulch, Mystic point and Toy Story Land are newly created lands. Dumbo
the Flying Elephant and Sleeping Beauty's castle are classic attractions. However, Slinky Dog Spin

Significantly lower than both Disneyland Anaheim and Disney World, Disneyland Hong Kong has
twenty–four restaurants. Another notable difference is the style of cuisine which is primarily
Chinese or Asian.
Also, ticket pricing varies by age. General admission tickets for ages twelve to sixty–four are five

Fernand Léger: The Cinema Of Attraction
The cinema of attraction.
'A matter of making images seen.' This is what Fernand Léger was writing in 1902 about the new
art, trying to describe the possible changes in cinema, by emphasizing the fact that imitating the
movements of nature is not necessarily the best way of defining cinema's essence. This is only one
of the writings concerning this topic which influenced Tom Gunning in characterizing the cinematic
period before 1906 as that of the 'cinema of attractions'. In this essay I am going to talk about the
cinema of attractions and its main characteristics with examples from several early films, with an
emphasis on 'Un homme de têtes' (Georges Méliès, 1898) and L'arrivée d'un train à la Ciotat
(Auguste and Louis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
'Unlike psychological narrative, the cinema of attractions does not allow for elaborate development,
only a limited amount of delay is really possible'.(TG, p122) It is exactly this newness that makes it
exciting, as it instantly produces a show with a high impact, offering sensational thrills through
powerful images in motion, without the traditional narrative structure. In this type of cinema, the
spectator identifies himself with the camera more than a character and his confrontation with the
film is rather unmediated by the story. Hence, seeing this exhibitionist style as a precursor for the
later narrative structures would show a misunderstanding of its value.
Another iconic film for the cinema of attractions is Un homme de têtes, 1895. I have chosen to
discuss this film because of its director, which most of the time is put in contrast with the Lumière
brothers, because of their different styles. The first one uses editing and multi shots, while the
Lumière brothers show nature caught on camera, in a single shot. Still, both styles have the same
essence, that of the act of display, the pleasure of the spectacle.
One aspect that one can definitely notice in Méliès' film is the presence of a showman/monstrator
whose role is to present the film to the audience, a mediator between the crowd

Disney World-Personal Narrative
I never knew that I was a part of something bigger than a backup, but I turned out to be. Now the
fate of every sliver of good magic Walt Disney ever dreamed up rests on me–me and the team, I
should say. I suppose it all started, that everything changed at midnight.
I had just gone to sleep after a long day of homework when I woke up, not in my bed, but 'right
down the middle of Main Street USA'. I was standing at the flagpole facing the magnificent
Cinderella Castle. I had to stop and think a second. How was I in Disney World? Why was it so
deserted? It was practically a ghost town here in the wee hours of night. Then I turned and saw a boy
sitting on the bench. I was certainly taken aback by the appearance of someone else. He motioned
toward me and as I came closer, I soon recognized him. It was that smart British kid who could do
things with a computer most adults wouldn't understand. It was Dell Philby.
"So you're the extra, aren't you?" he said as I approached the bench.

How Does Shakespeare Use Gender In Twelfth Night
In Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, the main story told is of the battle between silliness (Feste, Maria,
romance, pranks, and drama) and seriousness (Malvolio, dourness, rules, and stresses of life). One
facet of this is gender – the main protagonist Viola presents as male for most of the play.
Shakespeare, whether intentionally or not, has shown prime examples of projected identity based on
sex, gender roles, and the power associated with each sex. These messages were revolutionary at the
time, and only in recent decades are people really beginning to examine them, but Shakespeare has
been known to slip messages into his works that were far ahead of his time. Shakespeare uses
Viola's identity as a character in relation to gender roles and gender itself, and Olivia's relationship
with her.
Shakespeare has clearly separated almost all elements of the book into two categories; silliness and
seriousness. Viola's gender and presentation would fit into silliness – at face value, the changes
began because of a ridiculously dramatic act of love, and Shakespeare uses many lines of dialogue
such as the frivolously dangerous wordplay Viola uses (as described by the Duke in the end, "Boy,
thou hast said to me a thousand times / Thou never shouldst love woman like to me."), which might
blow her cover, to inject more unrealism into the entire situation. However, looking deeper at the
subject, Viola's gender presentation is one of the most ambiguously casted elements of the play. She

Importance Of Tourism In Germany
In the German language the word Germany is called something completely different. Deutschland is
the word they use in the German language for Germany ("Interesting Information about Germany").
Just like how Germany is called Deutschland in the German language is interesting, the tourist
attractions, and the WW2 history and religion in Germany is just as phenomenal. The tourist

Germany has fabulous tourist attractions that have been preserved throughout the centuries. The
scenery is a big part of attracting tourists to Germany. The beautiful German southern Alps along
with gorgeous Rhine, Main, and Danube river valleys make Germany famous for its scenery.
Medieval villages and castles dot this landscaping. In Germany's major cities, there are many
theaters, operas, and orchestral music offered. Plenteous resorts and gorgeous Rugen Island are now

Personal Narrative-The Tower Of Terror
It was around 5 in the afternoon. The air was crisp, we sat on a bench in front of a contraption full of

What Makes Kochan's True Identity In Confessions Of A Mask
The book by Yukio Mishima, Confessions of a Mask, introduces the idea of an unfound identity.
Throughout many stages of the book, Kochan is seen trying to revise his life of the struggles and
obstacles that are brought forth by the confusion of his sexual preference. Omi is one main character
that greatly affects Kochan's life due to unconditionally helping Kochan realize his true sexual
preference towards the same sex. This realization helped Kochan move on and explore new
opportunities to help acquire a better understanding of his true sexual identity.
Just by reading the title Confessions of a Mask, one could analyze the word "Mask" and believe that
it would be used to cover someone's real face. However, the title also includes the word
"Confessions", so when one puts both of these two words together, it could be looked at as if
someone had held in many untold truths under their real personality. Kochan, the main character,
really represents this whole idea of his real identity not being truthfully shown. Consequently,
Kochan tries to be someone that he's most definitely not, which leads to ... Show more content on

jeans plainly out lined the lower half of his body, which moved lithely and seemed to be walking
directly towards me. An inexpressible adoration for those trousers was born in me. I did not
understand why" (Mishima 9). Thus, this really gives a clear idea of how Kochan adores the male
anatomy and has some sort of attraction towards the male sex. This conflicts with what Kochan had

Reciprocal Interesting On Interest In Potential Mate Rating
Attraction within Human Beings Emily Simmons Iona College Abstract This study tested the

Attraction In Cross-Sex Relationships Essay
Can you be friends with someone you like? The dynamic of cross–sex friendships is an interesting
area of study and one of which has little data. Moreover, research on this narrow subject is rather
limited and comes from fairly old studies. The idea that men and women cannot be 'just friends,' is
due to the idea that there must be some aspect of physical and or romantic involved. As Reeder
discussed traditional societal norms and expectations of male–female relationships have played a
role in how we view cross–sex friendships today. The literature on cross–sex friendships has
explored the role of attraction and the impact it has on the dynamics of cross–sex relationships. This
literature review will investigate the role of attraction on cross–sex relationships and whether
attraction hinders being friends with someone you like. Further, exploring the various common
themes among the literature on attraction in cross–sex friendships: the definition of attraction is
subjective and there are different types of attraction, attraction tends to confuse the definition of the
relationship, men perceive attraction more than women and lastly, attraction indeed is a challenge
but not necessarily detrimental. It is hypothesized that attraction creates a significant challenge for
those involved in a cross–sex relationship. Therefore, once attraction becomes an issue in the
relationship, the possibility of the relationship lasting is questionable. The following five studies

Walt Disneyland Informative Speech
Walt Disney came up with the idea of Disneyland while watching his daughters play on the
carrousel at Griffith Park. The very bench that he envisioned Disneyland on can be found inside the
park on Main Street. The Happiest Place on Earth opened on July 17, 1955. The grand opening of
Disneyland was a complete disaster.
Opening day was supposed to be invitation only. However, many people forged and counterfeited
the tickets. About 30,000 people squeezed through the gates that day.
Nowadays, the park sees hundreds of thousands of people visiting the park each week. The park,
opening with only 18 attractions, was not able to cater to so many people. With the amount of
people sneaking in, food carts and restaurants all ran out of food and over ... Show more content on

Only they are not speakers, they are Smellitzers. They spray out scents such as vanilla or peppermint
to draw you into the shops. The Smellitzers are also used on some rides and attractions to make the
experience seem more realistic.
Walt wanted the park to be spotless at all times and wanted the guests to only see the magical side of
Disneyland. He and The Imagineers created their own color called "Go Away Green" that they used
to paint the wall around Disneyland, gates, and any unsightly equipment behind attractions. The idea
was that the color is so neutral, that it would go unnoticed by the common eye. The door to Club 33
is also painted this color.
As Walt Disney said in his speech on opening day, "To all who come to this happy place; welcome.

How Important Are The External Factors Influence Attraction?
For as long as human beings have inhabited the Earth, as a specie, they have discovered a way to
produce offspring, which led to the expansion and survival of the entire species. That being said,
over the course of history, researchers in multiple fields have attempted to study this evolutionary
phenomenon, but social psychologist became the main contributors that brought awareness to the
topic of attraction and how it influenced early humans to select certain individuals as their mate.
Human attraction has also become a sensitive topic over the course of history due to the fact that in
earlier times, attraction was used just as a method to produce offspring, however, nowadays,
attraction is used to create relationships that are meant to last. In other words, attraction is no longer
just about producing offspring, but to find the perfect mate that will become a lifetime companion.
Furthermore, literature that has been written on the subject has mainly focused on the attraction that
form heterosexual romantic relationships. However, this Additionally, an important ... Show more

One of the external factors is the level or amount of similarity between two individuals when it
comes to social interaction. According to psychologists, there are two different types of similarity,
actual and perceived similarity. Actual similarity has been defined as "the degree to which one is
actually similar to another individual" (Montoya, Horton, and Kirchner, 2008). On the other hand,
perceived similarity has been defined as "the degree to which one believes oneself similar to
another" (Montoya, Horton, and Kirchner, 2008). This type of external factor focuses on the fact that
if individuals are presented with a positive stimulus, that will act as a direct connection that will

Human Sexuality In American Beauty
American Beauty is a 1999 film directed by Sam Mendes to portray the life of Lester Burnham, a
sexually frustrated father who falls in love with his daughter's best friend, during his mid–life crisis.
American Beauty introduces many different concepts of human sexuality, such as sexual fantasy,
sexual orientation, and sexual arousal. The concept of sexual fantasy appears many times throughout
the movie, especially when Lester Burnham encounters Angela Hayes and fantasizes about sexual
behaviors involving her. American Beauty also introduces two of the main sexual orientations,
which are homosexuality and heterosexuality. Jim Olmeyer and Jim Berkley, the neighbors of
Burnham family, appear in the beginning of the film as homosexual lovers and Lester and Carolyn
Burnham appear as heterosexual married couple. Furthermore, Carolyn Burnham engages in an
affair with Buddy Kane because she is sexually aroused by his power and reputation. Lester
Burnham is also sexually aroused by the fantasies that he has with Angela Hayes. Even though there
are other concepts of human sexuality in American Beauty, sexual fantasy, sexual orientation, and
sexual arousal are the most relevant concepts that appears in the film.
Sexual fantasy is a form of sexual experience that emerges from people's imaginations in their
minds, real–life experiences, or stimulations from the Internet, books, drawings, pictures, films, and
other types of media (Crooks & Baur, 2015). In American Beauty, Lester Burnham goes to his
daughter's cheerleading performance and meets Angela Hayes for the first time. At the performance,
he fantasizes that Angela is trying to seduce him by dancing erotically and showing her breasts.
Later on, he also fantasizes naked Angela covered in rose petals and masturbates using this fantasy.
Crooks and Baur (2015) state that erotic fantasies are common during masturbation and that men
focus more on the body of a women when fantasizing. Lester's fantasy during masturbation
illustrates this because he is masturbating while fantasizing on Angela's naked body instead of her
behaviors. Moreover, Crooks and Baur (2015) also state that sexual fantasies can often be consisted
of "forbidden wishes." Lester Burnham's sexual fantasies

Sparrows Critical Analysis
Sparrows (1926), directed by William Beaudine and starring Mary Pickford, has reviews that focus
on its non–story elements as well, praising the spectacle of the film over its narrative. Like the
aforementioned Keaton films, this film has a relatively simple plot. A group of kidnapped orphans
tries to escape their evil captor, led by the oldest of the orphans, who Mary Pickford portrays. The
climax of the film is the extended escape scene, which features the children crawling along a broken
tree branch above a swamp full of hungry alligators. Again, like the reviews of the Keaton films,
critics considered the story of this film lackluster, as the New York Times paper released on
September 20th, 1926,4 states: "Miss Pickford's excellent portrayal of the little mother leaves only
the desire for a more plausible story." This same reviewer states: "As this film was produced before
the plot, it is presumed that the exciting experience had nothing to do with the film's story," as well
as criticisms such as "the continuity is vague in spots." Here again we see the story being criticized,
while the excitement of a chase scene over alligators is the main attraction the film offers. One
reviewer for Variety even went so far to say: "The truth is the production is one of the few duds put
out for Mary Pickford. Of course, the star's name is more or less failure–proof."5 Despite these
reviews, which emphasize the film's lack of story, Sparrows still did well in the US box office,

This makes the ride there a little earie, which adds to the experience. Lancaster is about a three–hour
drive from my place, so having the ride there be creepy gets me hyped to go there. My standards for
haunted attractions include, the fright factor, atmosphere, and interaction. Field of Screams includes
4 attractions for the price of 34 dollars, although the price differs depending on the day that you go.

Haunted Den, and finally there is a haunted walk. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were small lines for these attractions, but at max, it was only a ten–minute wait. Both
attractions were walk through, placed in dark rooms with actors dressed up in gore trying to scare
you. Many of the actors would just yell at the walkers as they passed. There is a high jump factor in
some of the areas of the houses, however overall these two haunted attractions were like other
haunted houses. The actors in the haunted houses weren't as touchy as the ones on the hay ride, so
that lowered the fright factor even though they did a good job hopping out of unseen spaces and
creating a scary theme.
The last attraction was an outside walk through known as Nocturnal Wasteland. There was
absolutely no wait for this attraction which made it nice. This one, however, would be the least
thrilling. The outside scenario was good, but there weren't as many actors contributing to the scare
which made it boring to go through. There was also a bad smell in some areas which made me feel
ill. Nocturnal Wasteland had little scare to it, but the scenery was really good. There spooky trees

Toulmin Analysis of Attraction Essay
Toulmin Analysis of "Attraction"
In "The Mystery of Attraction," Harville Hendrix claims that attraction between human beings is
based on a number of factors that ultimately leave human beings baffled on exactly how humans
experience such intense emotions as seen in romantic love and why so many couples tend to have
complementary characteristics. He supports this claim by explaining several theories of attraction.
His biological theory of courtship states that "we instinctively select mates who will enhance the
survival of the species" (483). This theory suggests instinctive evolutionary attraction such as a

The backing for his warrants takes the form of a list which depicts ten main characteristics of a
marriage. Most of the characteristics are based around the subconscious mind of humans, placing
much emphasis on the basic needs and desires of a person. The results of a poll are also included at
the end of the essay which reinforces the author's exchange theory.
As a qualifier, Hendrix states that "Although these three theories help explain some aspects of
romantic love, we are still left with our original questions" (484). He says that despite a plentitude of
research, the answers remain a mystery.
Critique: I found this essay to be enlightening in several ways. Not only was the information
presented in an organized way, but it was also very interesting. I agree with the author's statements
about the trials and tribulations of relationships, and I find myself agreeing most with his biological
theory of attraction. I especially liked the psychological direction of the essay, as it remained fairly
objective and scientific while still presenting new and different ideas as witnessed by his inclusion
of historical facts with the addition of his own unique analysis and commentary

Mirrormask Unrealism
MirrorMask An Unrealistic Fantasy World
Known for its innovative imagery, the 2005 fantasy film MirrorMask rejected realistic special
effects. In one of the film's most engaging sequences, the main character Helena is transformed into
an evil princess by a group of mechanical dolls singing, "Close to You" by the Carpenters. An
underground 'cinema of attractions', the sequence sought to engage the audience in the artistic
wonder of inventive special effects. By experimenting with special effects, the scene rejected both
perceptually realism and photorealism. By rejecting the normalized standard of realism in special
effects, MirrorMask's "Close to You" sequence opens the doors for a new version of special effects–
one not trapped by perceptual realism and photorealism, but instead free to transform and reach
towards the sublime.
Instead of embracing the photorealism found in special effects since the influence Star Wars and
Star Trek, which Julie Turnock discuses in her article, "The ILM Version", films should explore the
possibilities of special effects beyond realism (Turnock, Julie). The MirrorMask's "Close to You"
sequence begins to explore the freedom of special effects through various experimentation. In her
article, Turnock describes how films have conditioned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the spectacle engaged the audience, it didn't burst off the screen. It remained a part of the
film's reality. In a way, the "Close to You" scene is very much a like a musical number. The

Furthermore, as a tamed attraction, the sequence remains within the film narrative. While the
sequence celebrates special effects as an art form, it also subtly participates in the plot. The
mechanical dolls dance routine hypnotizes Helena into thinking she's the evil princess, so in the next
scene she docilely accepts her

When compiling a list of affirmations, most people include the typical abundance affirmations,

is a key element necessary for any affirmation on your affirmation list to work. Without this key

daily affirmations to their full potential. This is because the Law of Attraction responds to our ability

Attraction In Interpersonal Relationships

  • 1. Attraction In Interpersonal Relationships Interpersonal attraction, as defined by social psychologists, refers to attitudinal positivity (Huston and Levinger, 1978). Although, this attitudinal positivity may not refer a romantic attraction, it still refers to an attraction that is compelling enough to form a relationship with another individual. Interpersonal relationships are formed when an individual feels the 'need to affiliate'. This 'need to affiliate' is critically important to human beings. Individuals who achieve high levels of affiliation often form successful interpersonal relationships. Those who develop strong relationships with other members of society acquire a strong sense of belonging which contributes to a higher level of self esteem. There are many factors that influence the formation of successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Physical attraction can be linked to evolutionary factors, where gender differences arise due to reproductive costs. Generally males experience low reproductive costs primarily as they primarily focus on the fertility cues of the female, and are strongly entranced by an absence of grey hair, a girlish figure and high energy levels. Whereas, females are exposed to high cost whilst creating offspring, as they focus on the intelligence cues of males and search for the provision of food, shelter and resources. Wilson (1986) claims that sexual attractions can be clarified by the comprehension of 'survival efficiency'. He argues that it is the role of males to impregnate as many females as feasible; this is due to males' high sperm count, which would ensure a large level of offspring. However, females are only capable of producing one egg at a time, meaning they can only ensure the survival of relatively fewer offspring. For this reason, females usually seek a high status and wealth in a male, while males search for a salubrious physical appearance as this conveys excellent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. What Does A Social Psychology Research Tell Us About... Research Topic What does recent social psychology research tell us about factors that enhance or deter attraction to others? Are people predictable on any of these contributing factors? Are there attraction factors that are universally the same? Explain. Are their differences in friend attraction and romantic attraction? Why? How does attraction differ by age and/or gender? Provide examples. Are these individual and/or linked to the cultural context? What does the empirical literature tell us about cross–cultural (not cross–racial) attraction and what influences the formation and continuation of these types of relationships? Are their advantages and/or disadvantages with cross–cultural relationships? Explain, and provide scientifically supported pros and cons with examples. What types of attraction are not explained by current attraction theory? Main Question: What are the different influencing factors, types, and effects of attraction? In studying interpersonal attraction and the many different psychological and societal aspects that accompany it, there are many patterns that seem to form amongst individuals when presented with a situation that involves attraction to or from another being. Some of these patterns are in reference to either the factors leading up to and predicting attraction, or in reference to the reactions that individuals have to any sort of physical attraction stimulus. Since 1955, Walt Disney's idea of a theme park has adapted to more than just a carnival. Currently there are six Disney theme parks worldwide. The United States holds two theme parks, Disneyland Park in California and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. China also holds two theme parks, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Disneyland Shanghai. While, Japan and Paris only hold one theme park, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. Each new Disney park strives to be unique, create fun attractions and serve cuisine that appeal to the citizens of its location but remain consistently classic. Disneyland Anaheim is divided into eight themed lands; Main Street ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regular tickets are one hundred and seven dollars. In contrast Grizzly Gulch, Mystic point and Toy Story Land are newly created lands. Dumbo the Flying Elephant and Sleeping Beauty's castle are classic attractions. However, Slinky Dog Spin and RC Racer are new attractions that still remain consistent with the theme of other Walt Disney parks. • 37. Fernand Léger: The Cinema Of Attraction The cinema of attraction. 'A matter of making images seen.' This is what Fernand Léger was writing in 1902 about the new art, trying to describe the possible changes in cinema, by emphasizing the fact that imitating the movements of nature is not necessarily the best way of defining cinema's essence. This is only one of the writings concerning this topic which influenced Tom Gunning in characterizing the cinematic period before 1906 as that of the 'cinema of attractions'. In this essay I am going to talk about the cinema of attractions and its main characteristics with examples from several early films, with an emphasis on 'Un homme de têtes' (Georges Méliès, 1898) and L'arrivée d'un train à la Ciotat (Auguste and Louis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 'Unlike psychological narrative, the cinema of attractions does not allow for elaborate development, only a limited amount of delay is really possible'.(TG, p122) It is exactly this newness that makes it exciting, as it instantly produces a show with a high impact, offering sensational thrills through powerful images in motion, without the traditional narrative structure. In this type of cinema, the spectator identifies himself with the camera more than a character and his confrontation with the film is rather unmediated by the story. Hence, seeing this exhibitionist style as a precursor for the later narrative structures would show a misunderstanding of its value. Another iconic film for the cinema of attractions is Un homme de têtes, 1895. I have chosen to discuss this film because of its director, which most of the time is put in contrast with the Lumière brothers, because of their different styles. The first one uses editing and multi shots, while the Lumière brothers show nature caught on camera, in a single shot. Still, both styles have the same essence, that of the act of display, the pleasure of the spectacle. One aspect that one can definitely notice in Méliès' film is the presence of a showman/monstrator whose role is to present the film to the audience, a mediator between the crowd ... Now the fate of every sliver of good magic Walt Disney ever dreamed up rests on me–me and the team, I should say. I suppose it all started, that everything changed at midnight. I had just gone to sleep after a long day of homework when I woke up, not in my bed, but 'right down the middle of Main Street USA'. I was standing at the flagpole facing the magnificent Cinderella Castle. I had to stop and think a second. How was I in Disney World? Why was it so deserted? It was practically a ghost town here in the wee hours of night. Then I turned and saw a boy sitting on the bench. I was certainly taken aback by the appearance of someone else. He motioned toward me and as I came closer, I soon recognized him. It was that smart British kid who could do things with a computer most adults wouldn't understand. It was Dell Philby. "So you're the extra, aren't you?" he said as I approached the bench. "Extra what?" I stuttered, still perplexed by this whole situation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. How Does Shakespeare Use Gender In Twelfth Night In Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, the main story told is of the battle between silliness (Feste, Maria, romance, pranks, and drama) and seriousness (Malvolio, dourness, rules, and stresses of life). One facet of this is gender – the main protagonist Viola presents as male for most of the play. Shakespeare, whether intentionally or not, has shown prime examples of projected identity based on sex, gender roles, and the power associated with each sex. These messages were revolutionary at the time, and only in recent decades are people really beginning to examine them, but Shakespeare has been known to slip messages into his works that were far ahead of his time. Shakespeare uses Viola's identity as a character in relation to gender roles and gender itself, and Olivia's relationship with her. Shakespeare has clearly separated almost all elements of the book into two categories; silliness and seriousness. Viola's gender and presentation would fit into silliness – at face value, the changes began because of a ridiculously dramatic act of love, and Shakespeare uses many lines of dialogue such as the frivolously dangerous wordplay Viola uses (as described by the Duke in the end, "Boy, thou hast said to me a thousand times / Thou never shouldst love woman like to me."), which might blow her cover, to inject more unrealism into the entire situation. However, looking deeper at the subject, Viola's gender presentation is one of the most ambiguously casted elements of the play. She is only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout many stages of the book, Kochan is seen trying to revise his life of the struggles and obstacles that are brought forth by the confusion of his sexual preference. Omi is one main character that greatly affects Kochan's life due to unconditionally helping Kochan realize his true sexual preference towards the same sex. This realization helped Kochan move on and explore new opportunities to help acquire a better understanding of his true sexual identity. Just by reading the title Confessions of a Mask, one could analyze the word "Mask" and believe that it would be used to cover someone's real face. However, the title also includes the word "Confessions", so when one puts both of these two words together, it could be looked at as if someone had held in many untold truths under their real personality. Kochan, the main character, really represents this whole idea of his real identity not being truthfully shown. An inexpressible adoration for those trousers was born in me. I did not understand why" (Mishima 9). Moreover, research on this narrow subject is rather limited and comes from fairly old studies. The idea that men and women cannot be 'just friends,' is due to the idea that there must be some aspect of physical and or romantic involved. As Reeder discussed traditional societal norms and expectations of male–female relationships have played a role in how we view cross–sex friendships today. The literature on cross–sex friendships has explored the role of attraction and the impact it has on the dynamics of cross–sex relationships. This literature review will investigate the role of attraction on cross–sex relationships and whether attraction hinders being friends with someone you like. Further, exploring the various common themes among the literature on attraction in cross–sex friendships: the definition of attraction is subjective and there are different types of attraction, attraction tends to confuse the definition of the relationship, men perceive attraction more than women and lastly, attraction indeed is a challenge but not necessarily detrimental. It is hypothesized that attraction creates a significant challenge for those involved in a cross–sex relationship. Therefore, once attraction becomes an issue in the relationship, the possibility of the relationship lasting is questionable. The following five studies support the ... As Walt Disney said in his speech on opening day, "To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land." Whether it comes to making your Disneyland experience as realistic as possible or to the eerie souls that supposedly roam around the park, Walt Disney set out to please all of his guests and cast members. Each secret of Disneyland was created for a specific reason by Walt himself, some explained and some will never be known. My favorite that I've been to so far is Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Universal is a theme park all about movies and everything is themed about movies. Rides are named after a marvel character or a movie like Minions. All their merchandise is themed depending on which park you are in. Before I left the park, I bought a Gryffindor mug. Parks like the Harry Potter themed one and the Dr. Seuss park go full blown with having every inch being covered in that particular design. The parks may not have rides like Six Flags or Disney World, but it has many different attractions that do make it worth the time and money. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 114. How Important Are The External Factors Influence Attraction? For as long as human beings have inhabited the Earth, as a specie, they have discovered a way to produce offspring, which led to the expansion and survival of the entire species. That being said, over the course of history, researchers in multiple fields have attempted to study this evolutionary phenomenon, but social psychologist became the main contributors that brought awareness to the topic of attraction and how it influenced early humans to select certain individuals as their mate. Human attraction has also become a sensitive topic over the course of history due to the fact that in earlier times, attraction was used just as a method to produce offspring, however, nowadays, attraction is used to create relationships that are meant to last. In other words, attraction is no longer just about producing offspring, but to find the perfect mate that will become a lifetime companion. Furthermore, literature that has been written on the subject has mainly focused on the attraction that form heterosexual romantic relationships. However, this Additionally, an important ... According to psychologists, there are two different types of similarity, actual and perceived similarity. Actual similarity has been defined as "the degree to which one is actually similar to another individual" (Montoya, Horton, and Kirchner, 2008). On the other hand, perceived similarity has been defined as "the degree to which one believes oneself similar to another" (Montoya, Horton, and Kirchner, 2008). • 118. Human Sexuality In American Beauty American Beauty is a 1999 film directed by Sam Mendes to portray the life of Lester Burnham, a sexually frustrated father who falls in love with his daughter's best friend, during his mid–life crisis. American Beauty introduces many different concepts of human sexuality, such as sexual fantasy, sexual orientation, and sexual arousal. The concept of sexual fantasy appears many times throughout the movie, especially when Lester Burnham encounters Angela Hayes and fantasizes about sexual behaviors involving her. American Beauty also introduces two of the main sexual orientations, which are homosexuality and heterosexuality. Jim Olmeyer and Jim Berkley, the neighbors of Burnham family, appear in the beginning of the film as homosexual lovers and Lester and Carolyn Burnham appear as heterosexual married couple. Furthermore, Carolyn Burnham engages in an affair with Buddy Kane because she is sexually aroused by his power and reputation. Lester Burnham is also sexually aroused by the fantasies that he has with Angela Hayes. Even though there are other concepts of human sexuality in American Beauty, sexual fantasy, sexual orientation, and sexual arousal are the most relevant concepts that appears in the film. Sexual fantasy is a form of sexual experience that emerges from people's imaginations in their minds, real–life experiences, or stimulations from the Internet, books, drawings, pictures, films, and other types of media (Crooks & Baur, 2015). In American Beauty, Lester Burnham goes to his daughter's cheerleading performance and meets Angela Hayes for the first time. At the performance, he fantasizes that Angela is trying to seduce him by dancing erotically and showing her breasts. Later on, he also fantasizes naked Angela covered in rose petals and masturbates using this fantasy. Crooks and Baur (2015) state that erotic fantasies are common during masturbation and that men focus more on the body of a women when fantasizing. Lester's fantasy during masturbation illustrates this because he is masturbating while fantasizing on Angela's naked body instead of her behaviors. Moreover, Crooks and Baur (2015) also state that sexual fantasies can often be consisted of "forbidden wishes." Lester Burnham's sexual fantasies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 131. Sparrows Critical Analysis Sparrows (1926), directed by William Beaudine and starring Mary Pickford, has reviews that focus on its non–story elements as well, praising the spectacle of the film over its narrative. Like the aforementioned Keaton films, this film has a relatively simple plot. A group of kidnapped orphans tries to escape their evil captor, led by the oldest of the orphans, who Mary Pickford portrays. The climax of the film is the extended escape scene, which features the children crawling along a broken tree branch above a swamp full of hungry alligators. Again, like the reviews of the Keaton films, critics considered the story of this film lackluster, as the New York Times paper released on September 20th, 1926,4 states: "Miss Pickford's excellent portrayal of the little mother leaves only the desire for a more plausible story." This same reviewer states: "As this film was produced before the plot, it is presumed that the exciting experience had nothing to do with the film's story," as well as criticisms such as "the continuity is vague in spots." Here again we see the story being criticized, while the excitement of a chase scene over alligators is the main attraction the film offers. One reviewer for Variety even went so far to say: "The truth is the production is one of the few duds put out for Mary Pickford. Of course, the star's name is more or less failure–proof."5 Despite these reviews, which emphasize the film's lack of story, Sparrows still did well in the US box office, ... Its located in Lancaster, Pa in a small town with lots of corn fields. This makes the ride there a little earie, which adds to the experience. Lancaster is about a three–hour drive from my place, so having the ride there be creepy gets me hyped to go there. My standards for haunted attractions include, the fright factor, atmosphere, and interaction. Field of Screams includes 4 attractions for the price of 34 dollars, although the price differs depending on the day that you go. One attraction is a haunted hayride, then there are 2 haunted houses known as The Asylum and The Haunted Den, and finally there is a haunted walk. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were small lines for these attractions, but at max, it was only a ten–minute wait. Both attractions were walk through, placed in dark rooms with actors dressed up in gore trying to scare you. Many of the actors would just yell at the walkers as they passed. There is a high jump factor in some of the areas of the houses, however overall these two haunted attractions were like other haunted houses. The actors in the haunted houses weren't as touchy as the ones on the hay ride, so that lowered the fright factor even though they did a good job hopping out of unseen spaces and creating a scary theme. The last attraction was an outside walk through known as Nocturnal Wasteland. There was absolutely no wait for this attraction which made it nice. This one, however, would be the least thrilling. The outside scenario was good, but there weren't as many actors contributing to the scare which made it boring to go through. There was also a bad smell in some areas which made me feel ill. Toulmin Analysis of Attraction Essay Toulmin Analysis of "Attraction" In "The Mystery of Attraction," Harville Hendrix claims that attraction between human beings is based on a number of factors that ultimately leave human beings baffled on exactly how humans experience such intense emotions as seen in romantic love and why so many couples tend to have complementary characteristics. He supports this claim by explaining several theories of attraction. His biological theory of courtship states that "we instinctively select mates who will enhance the survival of the species" (483). This theory suggests instinctive evolutionary attraction such as a female's rosy cheeks on a slender frame and a male's muscular physique ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The backing for his warrants takes the form of a list which depicts ten main characteristics of a marriage. Most of the characteristics are based around the subconscious mind of humans, placing much emphasis on the basic needs and desires of a person. The results of a poll are also included at the end of the essay which reinforces the author's exchange theory. As a qualifier, Hendrix states that "Although these three theories help explain some aspects of romantic love, we are still left with our original questions" (484). He says that despite a plentitude of research, the answers remain a mystery. Critique: I found this essay to be enlightening in several ways. Not only was the information presented in an organized way, but it was also very interesting. I agree with the author's statements about the trials and tribulations of relationships, and I find myself agreeing most with his biological theory of attraction. I especially liked the psychological direction of the essay, as it remained fairly objective and scientific while still presenting new and different ideas as witnessed by his inclusion of historical facts with the addition of his own unique analysis and commentary ... • 143. Mirrormask Unrealism MirrorMask An Unrealistic Fantasy World Known for its innovative imagery, the 2005 fantasy film MirrorMask rejected realistic special effects. In one of the film's most engaging sequences, the main character Helena is transformed into an evil princess by a group of mechanical dolls singing, "Close to You" by the Carpenters. An underground 'cinema of attractions', the sequence sought to engage the audience in the artistic wonder of inventive special effects. By experimenting with special effects, the scene rejected both perceptually realism and photorealism. By rejecting the normalized standard of realism in special effects, MirrorMask's "Close to You" sequence opens the doors for a new version of special effects– one not trapped by perceptual realism and photorealism, but instead free to transform and reach towards the sublime. Instead of embracing the photorealism found in special effects since the influence Star Wars and Star Trek, which Julie Turnock discuses in her article, "The ILM Version", films should explore the possibilities of special effects beyond realism (Turnock, Julie). The MirrorMask's "Close to You" sequence begins to explore the freedom of special effects through various experimentation. In her article, Turnock describes how films have conditioned ... But there is a key element necessary for any affirmation on your affirmation list to work.
