2. Robert Jarvik
Jarvik was born on May 11th, 1946 in
Midland, Michigan.
He went to college at The University
of New York and received a Master’s
Degree in Medical Engineering.
He later went to The University of Utah
and got an M.D. in 1976.
3. More about Robert Jarvik
Robert Jarvik’s Field of
exploration is Medical Engineering.
He Explored Artificial Organs.
He eventually invent the Jarvik 7; an
artificial heart.
4. Investigation Question:
How have explorers from history impacted
modern day explorers and how will those modern day
discoveries impact your future?
5. My Answer
I believe that explorers in the past impact
the explorers in the future by inspiring them to
discover bigger and better things for us today.
I also believe that explorers from the past
set a path or goal for the explorers to come by
giving them something to build off of to improve
our lives today.
All these new discoveries being made can
impact my life by making everyday things easier or
by getting me the things I need faster and having
them available to me.
6. Part 1/3 of my answer;
“I believe that explorers in the past impact the explorers in
the future by inspiring them to discover bigger and better things for us
today.”
Explorers today can look back on discoveries from
history and want to improve things that may have failed or things
that aren’t complete.
Robert Jarvik created the Jarvik 7, it is no longer in use. The Twin
Turbines, (Bub Fraizer and Billy Cohn) invented another artificial heart, this
one doesn’t have things that are on the outside of the body, like the Jarvik 7
does. They wanted to improve it, so they did.
7. Part 2/3 of my answer;
“I also believe that explorers from the past set a path or goal for
the explorers to come by giving them something to build off of to improve
our lives today.”
Explorers from the past have discovered something that still can
be explored or improved on today. Explorers now look back on those things
and look at what failed, to see what they need to improve on in the future.
8. Part 3/3 of my answer;
“All these new discoveries being made can impact my life by making
everyday things easier or by getting me the things I need faster and having them
available to me.”
Different things that people are exploring can help people today.
Robert Jarvik made an artificial heart. The Jarvik 7, (the artificial heart)
improved many peoples’ lives. The longest someone lived with the heart in was
620 days. The first heart was implanted in 1982, on Barney Clark. He survived
112 days.
9. End…
The Jarvik 7 is no longer being used, but people
today are still searching for ways to improve and make a
new one.
