Animals: Colors and Shapes Why do they look different? Lauren Kyllonen EDU 290 8:00-9:15 http://media.photobucket.com/image/animal%20background/virginiaisforlovers88/backgrounds/animal-2.gif
Have you ever wondered: ,[object Object]
Why do some have big sharp teeth?
Or why does your pet looks different from your friend’s pet?
We’re going to find out.http://media.photobucket.com/image/animal%20background/virginiaisforlovers88/backgrounds/animal-2.gif
Why do animals look different? ,[object Object]
Why?
It depends on where their home is, what they eat, what others of their kind like, and sometimes even what people like.http://media.photobucket.com/image/animal%20background/virginiaisforlovers88/backgrounds/animal-2.gif
Let’s look at different types of animals: http://media.photobucket.com/image/animal%20background/virginiaisforlovers88/backgrounds/animal-2.gif
Bugs Q:Why are they so small? A:Bugs have their skeletons on the outside of their bodies unlike people and they have to fit everything inside them so they can’t be very big. Also being small helps them hide from things that want to eat them.
Am I the real one? Bugs Some bugs like monarch butterflies have bright colors. This might mean that they are poisonous so other things won’t want to eat them. Some animals copy these animals’ colors so that those things won’t eat them either like the Viceroy Butterfly. http://www.cafepress.com/+monarch_butterfly_art_print,289255913 Or am I? http://www.cafepress.com/+viceroy_butterfly_art_print,412721987
Birds ,[object Object]
Feathers help birds fly, steer, keep warm, keep dry, protect them from harm, and can even help them get the attention of girl or boy birds.
In some birds like ducks, peacocks, and cardinals the boys have bright colors to get the girls’ attention and the girls have dark colors to blend in to the ground and plants so they won’t be seen and can protect the eggs. http://truebluejournalism.blogspot.com/2009/09/come-on-and-shake-your-tail-feathers.html http://livinginframes.blogspot.com/2009/08/animalia.html
Birds ,[object Object]
Beaks help them eat whether it’s fruit, seeds, bugs, fish, plants, or even clay!
All birds have different beaks. Some have big or little beaks, fat or skinny, long or short. There are many different types.http://ez002.k12.sd.us/Chapter%20Thirteen%20Science.htm

  • 21. Their skin helps them breath; climb; and protect them from things that want to eat them by being bright, dull, or making them taste bad.
  • 22. Tree frogs have big sticky fingers to help them climb. Some are bright saying they’re poisonous.
  • 23. But toads have brown bumpy skin to help them hide on the ground.Watch out! I’m poisonous. http://calvynandbloggs.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html http://greennature.com/gallery/frog-pictures/western-toad.html Shhh…I’m invisible.

  • 26. Crustaceans like hermit crabs have shells to protect and hide them.
  • 27. Dolphins have tails that move up and down to help them reach the surface quick and blowholes to breath out of.
  • 28. Sharks, however, have tails that move from side to side that help them move and breath through their gills. I like to sick stuff on my back to help protect me. http://www.flickr.com/photos/72179605@N00/2240003823

  • 30. Zebras have flat teeth to help them grind down plants to eat. They have stripes to confuse predators when they’re in a group.
  • 31. Camels have teeth like a zebra because they eat plants too. But instead of stripes they have tan fur to blend into the dessert and humps on their back to store fat for when they can’t find food or water.
  • 32. Lions have sharp teeth and claws to help them catch and eat meat.
