USU launched a program in 2016 to connect researchers seeking federal funding with librarians to assist them with data management. This program assisted over 100 researchers, but was it successful? Our presentation will discuss how we evaluated the success of this program using online asynchronous focus groups (OAFG) in conjunction with a traditional survey. Our cross-institutional research team will share our findings as well as the challenges and successes of using OAFGs to assess library services.

At Utah State University, a pilot project is under development to evaluate the benefits of tracking data sets and faculty publications using the online catalog and the Library’s institutional repository. With federal mandates to make publications and data open, universities look for solutions to track compliance. At Utah State University, the Sponsored Programs Office follows up with researchers to determine where data has been or will be deposited, per the terms of their grant. Interested in making this publicly discoverable, the Library, Sponsored Programs, and Research Office are working together to pilot a project that enables the creation of publicly accessible MARC and Dublin Core records for data deposited by USU faculty. This project aims to make data sets, as well as publications, visible in research portals such as WorldCat, as well through Google searches. This presentation will describe the project and anticipated benefits, as well as outline the roles of the cataloging staff and data librarian, and the involvement of the Research Office.

Our research investigated common reactions to, and perceptions of, archival research, particularly in how various users approach finding aids. In the final portion of our presentation we discussed the problem of "hidden collections" and possible ways to improve patron access to such collections.

Ken Chad presented the keynote at the EDS (Ebsco Discovery Services) conference at Regents University, London in July 2016. He reviewed future trends for Google and enterprise search including factors such as voice (‘conversational’) search, the ‘ultimate assistant’, entities (‘things not strings’), visual search and the role of big data, context and intention. He then looked and some trends in library discovery services. There will continue to be a multiplicity of approaches open to users and Ken recommended that libraries do more to focus on the needs of users– the ‘jobs’ they were trying to do– in order to acquire and/or innovate new approaches to library discovery services.

This session goes beyond surveys to look at creative ways to gather and present user input. Surveys are tried-and-true ways to gather input from constituents, but there are many other fun and creative ways to hear your users’ voices. From user diaries, to flipcarts and pens, time-lapse photography, and on-the-ground guerilla surveying using iPads, learn alternatives for gathering and presenting user input to make more informed decisions for your library.

https://sched.co/GB4S Presentation by Heidi Nance and Joe Zucca. In order to better understand scholarly use of a vast collective collection - both within and without our 13-library partnership - Ivy Plus Libraries is leveraging MetriDoc, an open-source framework devised by a library for libraries, to create a generalizable data analysis infrastructure and visualization service. MetriDoc gathers, normalizes, and presents BorrowDirect consortial Resource Sharing data as well as ILLiad (interlibrary loan + document delivery) data from all 13 Ivy Plus Libraries—more than 500,000 transactions, annually. It integrates seamlessly with Tableau or other commodity statistical applications, thus allowing staff in any functional area (Assessment, User Services, Collections, IT, Technical Services, User Experience, Research & Instruction, etc.) to query, download, and interpret resource sharing data to support a variety of one-time or ongoing assessment projects. In this session we will discuss the Ivy Plus project and goals, the framework’s IMLS-funded history, and basic architecture, myriad use cases, and creative opportunities for future extensibility and connections with third-party systems common to libraries. Come learn how you, too, can analyze the larger-than-you-might-expect Resource Sharing data universe.

NCompass Live - March 1, 2017 http://nlc.nebraska.gov/NCompassLive/ Are your patrons actually benefiting from the programs and services you provide? If so, how can you prove it? The Public Library Association's latest initiative, Project Outcome, is a FREE online toolkit, offering an innovative and easy-to-use platform for public libraries to measure the impact of their programs and services. Library staff are able to easily measure patron outcomes using the field-tested surveys, quickly analyze their data using ready-made reports and an interactive data dashboard, and take action using the results. This session demonstrates what Project Outcome measures, what is included in the online toolkit, and how libraries of all shapes and sizes can utilize Project Outcome to measure their impact and affect change within their community. Burnsville (WV) Public Library will highlight their experience using Project Outcome. Presenters: Beth Anderson, Director, Burnsville (WV) Public Library; Samantha Lopez, Project Coordinator, Public Library Association.

Methods of Software Testing There are two basic methods of performing software testing: 1. Manual testing 2. Automated testing Manual Software Testing As the name would imply, manual software testing is the process of an individual or individuals manually testing software. This can take the form of navigating user interfaces, submitting information, or even trying to hack the software or underlying database. As one might presume, manual software testing is labor-intensive and slow.

Size separation, or sieving, is a technique to segregate particles by size, vital in pharmaceuticals, food processing, and mining. Methods include sieving (particles pass through mesh sieves), sedimentation (based on settling velocities in fluid), cyclone separation (using centrifugal forces), and filtration (using barriers with specific pore sizes). Applications range from ensuring uniform drug formulations to grading grains and extracting minerals. Size separation offers efficiency, precision, and versatility, making it essential for quality control and consistency across various industries.
