4. HISTORY
ÉXITO Stores Inc. In 1949 Opens in Medellin at a local 4 square
meters and with capital of fifteen thousand pesos. Very soon it was
expanding its facilities to fill, the mid-60s a whole block of the
populous area of Guayaquil in Medellin.
Thus, under the low prices slogan emerged the new Colombia Street
store and began the growth of the chain, with the subsequent opening
of the store El Poblado Envigado in 1974 and in 1981.
5. In 1989, ÉXITO opened the
first of several warehouses
located outside the city of
Medellin. success Calle 80
opened in the city of Bogota.
Since 1994, the company
began a process of opening
equity, and developed a
strategy of growth and
consolidation to meet the

Incially, ÉXITO was founded just by GUSTAVO TORO but trough time Éxito
allied and sell part of it stocks to:
• The French group Casino. It is the largest shareholder and owns 54.8% of
the shares, after a hammer held in the Colombia Stock Exchange, where the
French company acquired the shares belonging to the Toro family, the
founders of Success Storage.
• The GEA Group owns 20.3% (Pension Funds)
• 10% belongs to other large shareholders.
• The 10% of the shares are owned by small shareholders.
• The 4.9% is the ADR Program.

He has been a member of the Board of

S.A., Aseguradora del Valle S.A., and
Carulla-Vivero S.A.. Currently, he is a
member of the Board of Directors of
Banco de Occidente S.A.
Guillermo Valencia Jaramillo
Mr. Valencia is currently CEO of
Industrias el Cid, one of largest apparel
companies in Colombia. He is also the
Chairman of Inexmoda.
Luisa Fernanda Lafaurie
In Colombia, she is the advisor of
German Efromovich, president and
owner of Synergy. She's member of
different boards of directors: Isa
Colombia, Emgesa, Conconcreto in
Colombia, and CTEEP in Brasil. She
has been an external advisor for Grupo
Éxito, an independent consultant and
Minister of Mines and Energy of
Colombia, among others.
