For my questionnaire, I asked 10
school age children. 55% of them
were females and 45% were males. I
asked more females than males
because my primary target audience
is teenage girls. By asking more
females, I foundd out what they look
for in a pop music magazine as this
will help me when it comes to
creating my own pop music magazine
for my target audience.

I asked a range of school age children
to fill out my questionnaire. This is
because I wanted to get a specific age
for my target audience so that it will
be easy for me to know what type of
things they like about music
magazines. This way I am able to
attract my target and provide all the
features they look for in a music
magazine.
From the results, 50% of the people I
asked were aged 13-14. This age
group was the majority which shows
that they will have a large impact on
the results as more of them
answered the questionnaire. This
also shows that I might want to focus
on this age group for my target
audience as well as 15-17’s as 40% of
them responded to the
questionnaire.

40% of the people I asked in my
questionnaire said that they do read
music magazines and 40% said
sometimes. There was an even gap
between the two which shows that
there is still a slight interest in music
magazines.
For the 40% that said sometimes and
the 20% that said no, this implies that
they are waiting for an interesting
music magazine to come on the
market that is worth purchasing.
I will have to make my music
magazine different to the others on
the market so I am able to attract
those who answered sometimes and
no in order to change their views in
future.

50% answered they spend £33.99 on a music magazine. This
shows that music magazines
are not cheap but for those
who buy them are willing to pay
the full price .
20% was the least showing that
there maybe are not many
cheap music magazines around
hence the ones that answered
no to reading a music
magazine, price is part of the
issue.
From the results, I will price my
music magazine at £2.50. This is
so that it will be affordable for
teens and encourage those to
read music magazines who
don’t.

Pop music magazines
were the most popular
liked as 40% of the teens
ticked that box . This
indicates that I have
chosen to do the right
genre for my music
magazine as it is highly
liked by teens. My target
audience for my music
magazine will want the
genre to be pop as most
of the teens I asked like
this particular genre.
Following under pop was
RnB. Many artists like
Beyoncé, Rihanna, Cher
Lloyd, Alicia Keys, Little
mix are diverse and sing
both genres. Where my
main target audience is
for pop, I am also able to
attract teens who enjoy
RnB which would mean
that I would be able to
reach my secondary
audience .

30% of the teens answered that
they look for posters and
celebrity interviews in a music
magazine. This shows that I will
need to ensure my music
magazine provides these features
as it will attract the audience to
buy the magazine. It indicates
that this is what the reader
wants.
Many of the teens said that
sometimes they buy the
magazine purely for the posters
because hey either have a poster
collection or it makes them feel
closer to the celebrity.
There was a low percentage for
covermounts because we live in a
modern society and music has
moved online. Many of the teens
said that they listen to music on
YouTube, iTunes and other music
websites as it is easy to access
and free.
Additionally, a low percentage for
up & coming artists/(bands) as
there are many websites that
promote these artists such as:
SBTV, Link up Tv and more. This is
where many young people go to
check out new music talent.

40% said that they read
magazines weekly. This
was the highest
percentage so it shows
me that I may want to
consider publishing my
music magazine
weekly. There was a

on them to be
published regularly as
music is released often

‘We Love Pop’ was the most popular
music magazine that was read by the
teens. From this I know that the
genre I have chosen to do will clash
with ‘We Love Pop’s’ target audience
and I will have to do my target
market research to ensure I include
features to my music magazine that
‘We Love Pop’ does not have so I can
attract my audience without too
much competition.
