2. 1. CREATE A MENU
Always go in with a plan. Thanksgiving meal is a
huge undertaking which usually involves a lot
people. It’s important to lay out as much as
possible so you know which tools you will need,
how much time it will take, and what needs to
happen.
3. 2. KNOW YOUR GUESTS
Understand who your guest, reader, audience is. Of
course having a menu is great, but if the people in
attendance are vegetarian, preparing a turkey isn’t
ideal. What about nut allergies? Bye bye to pecan pie.
Create things that are relevant and that meet the
expectations of those being served.
4. 3. PLAY TO YOUR
STRENGTHS
Understand who your guest, reader, audience is. Of
course having a menu is great, but if the people in
attendance are vegetarian, preparing a turkey isn’t
ideal. What about nut allergies? Bye bye to pecan pie.
Create things that are relevant and that meet the
expectations of those being served.
5. 4. ASK FOR HELP
Sometimes you’re not good at everything. Acknowledge
that and seek the help you need to make the day a great
one. Keep the help to a minimum, of course; finding the
right person for the right job is a priceless skill, and your
guests will appreciate the effort.
6. 5. BE A GOOD HOST
Don’t invite people over and forget about them. Exercise
good manners, acknowledge relationships, stay in
communication.
7. 6. PLAN FOR THE
BEST, BUT
Even when you’ve done all you can, things can and still
happen. Keep your cool, strategize and execute
immediately. Doing so shows that you’re a problem
solver, and ensures that everyone will have a good time,
meaning they will be happy to return again.
