2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My front page contains a barcode and issue number as well as the date and a price like current magazine covers My front page also contains a pretty standard layout when it comes to magazines, a background image, a large title and small amounts of text around the main image describing features within. Despite sticking to a quite generic layout, I tried to use a little less text on the font page than most music magazines as I wanted the main focus to be on my image My double page spread is very generic, I stuck to the same layout as a lot of the magazines I researched as I felt it worked well
3. How does your media product represent particular social groups? The style of the music features within my magazine's contents page represent the particular social groups who enjoy alternative artists and bands I think the images included in my magazine most clearly express who the magazine was aimed at and I feel that they represent the alternative scene really well. The language used in my interview also represents a certain social group as some terms and phrases would only be understood by particular groups of people
4. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? I think that distributers of magazines such as Kerrang! And Metal Hammer etc would be the kind of media institutions that would distribute my magazine A company called Gordon & Gotch distribute Kerrang! magazine I believe that a media institution such as Gordon and Gotch would distribute my magazine because I feel that in many ways my own articles and featured bands are similar to Kerrang!'s I also notice that the general 'feel' to my magazine is quite similar to Kerrang! Magazine including the short snappy title which grabs the readers attention
5. Who would be the audience for your media product? My music magazine is aimed at the alternative music scene The language I have used within my magazine I believe would be suitably aimed at teenagers and young adults aged between 17 and 25 I think that I have made my intended audience very clear by using particular imagery and text. I also think my title would help distinguish the type of people that would read my magazine as many would recognise it as a Nirvana song title
6. How did you attract/address your audience? I wanted to use my front page image as the main focus for my audience, I wanted to make it as visually appealing as possible which was part of the reason for not wanting a lot of text to draw attention away from my photograph. I also made my title short and very bold on my front cover to immediately catch the reader's eye. I think my contents page also helps attract my audience, I used a lot of images and an easy to read layout and index to make finding an article easy for my reader
7. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I learnt the photoshop settings whilst dealing with a typical magazine layout I researched band and music photographers and learnt about how my own photo shoots would work technically and which camera settings to stick to especially when shooting in snow I also used effects on photoshop that I'd never experimented with before such as using a desaturated image as my background
8. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? I now realise the amount of detail that has to be included in order to attract a certain audience or a chosen social group I have learnt the importance of a good front page image and title as it's the first thing that will draw a reader in Looking back at my preliminary task I think I have improved a lot in the sense of my layout, my final product is much clearer and simpler and I feel is much more effective
