2. Introduction
O Throughout this year, I have been studying the topic of video
promotion. In order to complete this task successful, I have researched
and analysed into existing products within the pop genre, which has
helped me to create my media products. As part of this task we were
required to create a music video, which was directed, produced and
edited by Georgia Young and myself. As well as this, we created a
supporting Digipak and poster advertisement to help make the
products reach a professional level. When creating all 3 products, we
ensured there was a house style, which made sure all of the products
linked in somehow, helping to create synergy.
O I felt it was important to create house style as it allows an audience to
help instantly recognize both the artist, the song and the music genre.
We did this through the use of typography and colours as well as mise-
en-scene. We created a house style by finding particular features and
repeated them throughout each of my products.
3. Colour scheme;
O During the planning stage of creating our music
video, myself and Georgia decided we wanted the
music video to have a haze filter over each of the
frames to help signify the past as stereotypically
this symbolizes the idea of being old fashioned.
This is shown throughout the Digipak and
promotional poster as we have used a lighter
shade of the colours (blue and pink colour burst),
this suggests the idea of looking at the past. This
makes it relatable to an audience as we all relive
past moments/memories. However we decided to
use powder paint to create an explosion which
then emphasized the idea of focusing on his
current state of emotions. We colour graded our
music video we decided to higher the brightness of
the colours this suggests his current emotions and
by this being shown in bright colours emphasizes
the idea that his emotions are stronger and more
noticeable than before.
4. Colour scheme;
O On my supporting products I have used both the colours,
red and pink to help recreate the colour burst. We decided
to use the colour blue as stereotypically it is associated with
males, this links with the idea of the cast within the video
are all males. However we decided to pair this with the
colour pink as it shows contrast as stereotypically pink is
linked with females. However as we are basing our video
about a homosexual relationship, the pink helps to
reinforces feminine qualities. By having them meet in the
middle reinforces the 2 people coming together however in
our case this reflects the idea of 2 peoples personalities
coming together.
O As well as this, we have used the colour white in both
products to help reinforce the idea of purity which is
suggested by the age of the actors used throughout the
video. This then links in with the younger target audience s
stereotypically younger children are seen to be innocent.
5. Typography
O When choosing our typography, we wanted something that
was different as our music video is original and stands out
with other videos on the market. When chose the font
'Black Listed’ as it is bold and looks like something out of a
movie trailer, we liked this idea as we thought our music
video was similar to a premier as powder paint hasn‘t been
used in a video to date. Not only did we use this typography
within our print product but is used at the start to introduce
our videos meaning an audience are able to link all products
together. The font resembles the idea of 3D which is also
reinforced by the blue and red behind the artist suggesting
this relationship has helped shape him as a person as often
we associate the idea of 3D with films containing a lot of
action.
O We mostly used the colour black as it is visible on all
backgrounds used and is easy to read, especially for a
younger audience.
6. Camera Angles;
O When researching into the pop genre, we found out
that music videos mostly use close ups/ medium close
ups as they help promote the artist to an audience. So
when creating our music video we decided to use this
shot type more than any others as it allows an
audience to instantly recognise the artist. This meant
when creating the assisting products we used a
medium close up to ensure the audience understand
who the artist of the song is. As well as, a medium
close up allows an audience to look at facial
expressions worn on the face of the artist. By having
him shown smirking/smiling conveys the idea he is
now relaxed and happier in comparison to his
conveyed throughout the music video.
7. Creating Synergy;
O Creating synergy means how well my products work together. By
understanding both the genre and the lyrics of the song helped inspire me
when creating these products to work together as well as individually. By
taking the main scene of the music video, the colour burst, and applying it
to each product helped create a distinctive house style. This appeals to a
large audience as everybody thinks about throwing paint or powder at
somebody but never normally follows through therefore this video fulfils
fantasies of the audience. This then means my product works anywhere
around the world because we feel everyone or anyone could have these
thoughts. As well as this, the main theme of each of the products is
relationships and this is something everyone will experience once in their
life meaning it is relatable to anybody across the globe.
O All 3 products use warm colours such as pinks and oranges which connote
the idea of happiness and the blue symbolises a sense of calmness this will
then means the advertisements are t misleading for the audience. This then
fits in with the pop genre as stereotypically pop music is uplifting.
8. Creating Synergy;
O We feel our products work well with each other as they all follow the same
themes and have a running house style. However by making each product
different, for example adding a filter over the colour burst on the poster
advertisement, means I am not boring my audience and they are more
likely to buy or look at each individual product.
O In order to improve the synergy of my products further, unwound use a
variety of different shot types within my print products this would then
make them more interesting. As well as this, it means when creating other
products for the artist the shot types will all be different meaning an
audience will be more likely to buy them.
