MEDIA PRODUCT?
3. IDENTIFY THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF YOUR
TARGET AUDIENCE.
Audience profiles
The demographics of my target audience are:
u Age: 16 – 21
u Gender: Equally both genders
u Social class: Students – working class (YAKS)
u Ethnicity: Any ethnicity (English would be preferable
as the magazine is written in English)

4. IDENTIFY THE PYCHOGRAPHICS OF YOUR
TARGET AUDIENCE.
Audience profiles
My target audience for my magazine will all have the same sort of interests
and values, which makes it very helpful when looking at what to include in
my music magazine.
My audience will all take some sort of interest into some, or all of the bands
that are featured in my magazine, otherwise they wouldn’t be purchasing the
magazine in the first place. The look of the models and the clothes they wear
will also engage my audience to buy this magazine – as they will dress and
look similar to the models.
Some of the stories that are featured in my magazine are about ‘fans’ that
will lead the same sort of lifestyle to what my audience do (as they are all
most likely fans of different bands), this will allow them to engage in these
sorts of stories as they are not all about famous bands and celebrities.

5. WHO DID YOU DISTRIBUTE YOUR MAGAZINE
TO? AUDIENCE QUESTIONNAIRE
As part of research and planning, I have carried out 2
audience questionnaires.
The audience questionnaire’s were distributed to people
within my audience target age range: 16 – 21 year olds.
All of the information that was received was through
people of this particular age range, making all of the
decisions and improvements of my magazine fairly
accurate.
1. Who would be the audience for your media product?
6. Audience questionnaire 1
The first questionnaire was based on the first drafts of my
magazine was more about the demographics and
psychographics of my target audience, finding out what my
audience would prefer my magazine to look like in regards to
layout and fonts. It also asked them what what stories they
would like to see included, as well as what price the magazine
should be priced at what band should be featured.
I found that most of my results were results that I had
personally predicted, and were all things that I thought my
target audience would prefer to see featured

7. Audience questionnaire 2
This questionnaire was more about the final improvements to a 'near
enough’ final draft of all three pages of my magazine. There were a serious
of questions that were asked regarding the stories that are featured in my
magazine, whether they were suitable or interesting enough. There was also
other questions linking to whether the models I have used in my magazine
look suited to the genre (concerning they're costume and overall looks etc.)
The comments I received about this were all pretty much the same, they
were some slight improvements given to me, regarding colours, fonts and
the layout of the magazine, but overall I received very positive feedback! I
feel as though I had made the right choices (due to the improvements given
in the previous questionnaire) which made my magazine suitable and
appropriate to my chosen target audience.

8. DEMOGRAPHICS & PHYCHOGRAPHICS
STEREOTYPE BREAKDOWN
There are lots of different stereotypes that lie within the age
range of 16 – 21.
The media tends to show young adults in a way that only a
small percentage tend to act and present themselves. Young
adults are shown to be all the same – go out partying, causing
trouble, under aged drinking/sex, trying to look older than
what they are, pregnancy etc…

9. Here is a short video clip that
shows how teens/young adults
are portrayed in the media:

10. Representations
These representations of teenagers are all very
stereotypical to what an older audience ‘label’ young
people as, and not actually a true representation. Most
young adults between the ages of 16-21, are either in
full time education, a full time student at university and
in part time work, or have just left university and looking
to try and find work. Yes, they still have interests or be
associated with the topics listed above, but most have
interests within music (going to festivals), or go clubs/
sessions to help develop or learn new skills within a
hobby they take interest in, or something they wish to
pursue.
1. Who would be the audience for your media product?
11. Older generations compared to
society today!
An ‘older’ audience from an ‘older’ generation
probably do not realise the pressure that young
people are put under in todays society with exams and
work etc. Lots of young adults (students) are stressed
about multiple things which can lead to serious health
issues!
This is one of the main reasons as to the sorts of
things that are included in my magazine, giving young
adults the chance to buy my product to find out new
things about music they enjoy, events they can go to
and also read some pretty funny stories!

13. WHAT ARE THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF MY TARGET
AUDIENCE?
The target audience for my magazine is aimed
at teens – young adults. Every aspect of my
magazine is based towards this target audience
due to the public questionnaires I made
available for this particular age range to
answer, and give me ideas and areas of
improvement towards the magazine, so that the
magazine was more suitable.
2. How did you attract/address your audience?
14. Demographic breakdown
Age
By the term ‘young
adults’, the age range
is between 16-21 of
both genders. The
colours I have used
aren’t stereotypical for
a boy or girl, the main
colours used are
orange and purple
which aren’t both
associated with either a
boy or girl. Also, the
models I have used in
my magazine are both
boys and girls, not just
one gender.
Social class
I have aimed my magazine
towards students and people of a
working class. This is due to the
price of the magazine - £3. This
however, will also affect the
production costs of the magazine,
but the price will appeal more to
this age range because they wont
be looking to spend much on a
magazine, but it is also a suitable
price for a monthly subscription.
This point links in with the
education aspect in the audience
demographics – students would
still obviously be in full time
education, or working class (still
being around the age of 21, so
preferably looking at part time
workers) they would be at
university and living very little
money.
Ethnicity
Ethnicity isn't a very big part
of my magazine as it doesn’t
really come into it. The bands
are obviously all of an indie
genre, but are all of different
ethnicities. The only thing that
my magazine doesn’t include
are events/music that are
from other countries, the
magazine is written in English,
and that all of models that I
have included are white,
British. This may affect who
buys my magazine, but its not
to say that in other issues of
the magazine, their cant be
models who are featured with
other ethnicities other than
white, British.
2. How did you attract/address your audience?
15. HOW DID THE GENRE OF MY MAGAZINE
ATTRACT MY TARGET AUDIENCE?
The genre of my magazine attracted my target audience
in many different ways. I have tried to base my
magazine of the results I received from my audience
questionnaire, to make my magazine appeal to my
target audience in the best possible way.
Overall, I felt as though the decisions I made with my
magazine has give an accurate representation of the
genre and includes suitable images of models, props,
costume to attract my chosen target audience.
2. How did you attract/address your audience?
16. Images and
Shot Types
IMAGES – IN MY MAGAZINE, I USED
AROUND 7 IMAGES. THESE CONSISTED OF
DIFFERENT MODELS AND AN INSERTED
‘SCREEN SHOT’ OF MY DOUBLE PAGE
SPREAD STORY FEATURED ON MY
CONTENTS PAGE. IMAGES MAKES THE
MAGAZINE MORE APPEALING OVERALL,
INSTEAD OF HAVING A MAGAZINE THAT IS
FULL OF TEXT – NO ONE WOULD WANT TO
BUY IT!
SHOT TYPES – THE SHOT TYPES USED IN
MOST IMAGES OF THE MODELS, WERE
MID SHOT OR CLOSE UP. THESE SHOT
TYPES ALLOWS YOU TO SEE EITHER THE
OUTFIT OF THE MODEL, OR BEING
ENGAGED WITH THE EYES DURING THE
CLOSE UP. THE EYE LINE OF THE MODEL IS
MOST IMPORTANT THROUGH THE CLOSE
UP, AS THIS WILL MAKE THE AUDIENCE
MORE ATTRACTED AND ENGAGED
TOWARDS THE MAGAZINE.
17. Models and
Costume
MODELS – THE MODELS I USED ARE ALL
WITHIN THE AGE RANGE OF MY TARGET
AUDIENCE WHICH WILL ENGAGE THE
AUDIENCE MORE TOWARDS BUYING THE
MAGAZINE. IF THE MODELS THAT ARE
BEING USED ARE WITHIN THE SAME AGE
RANGE, THEN MY TARGET AUDIENCE WILL
KNOW STRAIGHT AWAY THAT THIS
MAGAZINE WILL APPEAL TO THEM, EVEN IF
THEY DIDN’T KNOW WHAT GENRE IT WAS!
HOWEVER, THE CLOTHES THEY ARE
WEARING AND THE WAY THEY LOOK WILL
GIVE IT AWAY TO THE AUDIENCE OF WHAT
THE GENRE OF THE MAGAZINE IS.
COTSUME - THE MODELS WERE ALL
DRESSED ACCORDINGLY TO SUIT THE
GENRE OF THE MAGAZINE. I MADE MY
MODELS WEAR COSTUMES THAT WERE
BASED UPON PREVIOUS RESEARCH (WHEN
LOOKING AT INDIE BANDS AND WHAT
MEMBERS WEAR). IT CONSISTED OF
CASUAL CLOTHING – NOTHING THAT
LOOKED OR THAT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE –
WHICH WOULD AGAIN, ATTRACT MY
TARGET AUDIENCE TO MY MAGAZINE, AS
THE MODELS ARE WEARING CLOTHING
THAT THE TARGET AUDIENCE WOULD TAKE
AN INTEREST IN.
18. Props and Edits
PROPS – THE ONLY PROP THAT WAS
USED IN MY MAGAZINE WAS A GUITAR
THAT MY MODELS WERE HOLDING. THE
FRONT COVER AND DOUBLE PAGE
SPREAD IMAGES CONSIST OF THE
GUITAR, WHICH WILL INSTANTLY IMPLY
TO THE AUDIENCE THAT THIS IS A
MUSIC RELATED MAGAZINE – AND THE
GUITAR SUGGESTS MUSIC OF A
‘ROCK’ GENRE.
EDITS – SOME ‘TOUCH UP’ AND
‘COLOUR CORRECTION’ TOOK PLACE
ON SOME OF THE PICTURES OF
MODELS TO EDIT OUT THE GREEN THAT
WAS REFLECTED ONTO THE SKIN OR
CLOTHES FROM THE GREEN SCREEN,
OTHER THAN THAT, THE EDITING WAS
KEPT MINIMAL SO THAT MY MODELS
DIDN’T LOOK ‘AIRBRUSHED’, GIVING A
FAKE REPRESENTATION OF WHAT
YOUNG ADULTS LOOK LIKE OR
SHOULD WANT TO LOOK LIKE.
19. HOW DOES MY COVERLINE AND
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD STORY ATTRACT MY AUDIENCE?
My cover lines that are featured on my front
cover and contents page are probably one of the
first things that my audience will read in the
magazine – so they need to be bold, interesting
and engaging!
2. How did you attract/address your audience?
20. “TOO POSH TO MOSH”
“GET INVOLVED”
My main cover line on my front cover image
says ‘Too posh to mosh?’. This should attract
my audience because of how it rhymes,
engaging them to look further at my magazine.
There is a small cover line on the front cover
that addresses the audience saying ‘GET
INVOLVED!’. This headline will attract the
audience, and should make them want to read
further into the magazine.
2. How did you attract/address your audience?
21. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD STORY
The double page spread story that is featured in my
magazine attracts the audience to read the article due
to how it has been previously mentioned on cover lines
on my front cover and contents page. The huge image
of my model that is displayed on the left hand side of
the article will draw attention to the audience,
intriguing them to read more. The block quotes that
are displayed on both pages of the double page spread
make the audience feel a part of the magazine, making
them feel involved with the article, as they are quotes
that the band have personally said.
2. How did you attract/address your audience?
22. HOW DID MY CHOICE OF MODELS CONFORM/SUBVERT
STEREOTYPES OF
THE MUSIC GENRE I CHOSE?
The models that I featured in my magazine
looked very natural as no editing took place of
their face making them look false, or giving an
incorrect representation of what young adults
look like in todays society (relating to the
specific group who are interested in the genre,
and what their image is).
2. How did you attract/address your audience?
23. CONFORMING STEREOTYPES
(Though my magazine)
Lots of young people are influenced by magazines to
change what they look like based on seeing false
representations of models and what they are shown as. I
wanted to avoid this in my magazine and make most of
my models look fairly casual, down to earth, and ‘pretty
cool’ looking as well. This conforms the stereotypes that
would buy my magazine instead of subverting, as in my
opinion gives an accurate representation. As well as my
magazine is aimed at young people of both genders, I
didn’t want to just stick to using either female or male
models, as this would subvert my target group and I
would only attract one specific gender to buy my
magazine.
2. How did you attract/address your audience?
24. SUBVERTING STEREOTYPES
(Through my magazine)
There are three images that are displayed on my contents
page of a female model that I feel may subvert the
message/intention from the ‘stereotypical’ group of people
that my product is aimed at. On the three images, you can
see my model pulling three different poses which I feel may
come across as being slightly ‘self indulged’, which isn’t the
message I want to portray to my audience. All of the other
images completely juxtapose the three images that are used
on the contents page, which MAY give the wrong impression
to my audience, causing problems with the distribution/
sales of the magazine.
2. How did you attract/address your audience?
25. WHAT KIND OF MARKETING CAMPAIGNS DO YOU THINK
WOULD ATTRACT YOUR AUDINECE FOR WHEN YOUR
MAGAZINE IS RELEASED?
2. How did you attract/address your audience?
There are many different ways that my
magazine can be promoted. Lots of magazines
vary on how they promote themselves
depending on the age range of there product.
There are different ways of promotion that
will most suit the target audience.
26. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
As my magazine is aimed at a modern day audience, I
feel as though the most successful marketing
campaigns will be announced through different sites on
social media. This means advertisements though a
Facebook, twitter or Instagram page before the
magazine is launched – this would get enable the
magazine to get a huge fan base before the product is
even released…people will also be able to give their say
about what they would like included in the magazine as
well as giving reviews at what has been successful and
what hasn’t.
2. How did you attract/address your audience?
27. Promotion through other
companies
Another marketing campaign can be through other
magazines! Before my product is released, my
magazine could receive promotion through a media
product that has some relation to the same genre
of my product – this would mean that my company
would most likely be owned by another (be in
agreement with a bigger company – conglomerate)
so that it can receive a bigger scale of promotion
to make sure that the product sells and makes a
profit.
2. How did you attract/address your audience?
28. TV and radio advertisements
Other marketing campaigns consist of
small TV or radio advertisements. This
could be done through music channels on
TV, or radio announcements on channels
that play the same genre of music to what
my magazine contains – this will also
attract the right sort of target audience
for my magazine!
